Default Show N Tell - T205 & T207 Cubs Complete Team Sets

Perhaps Mr. Hendry should start ringing up these guys and he'll have a better chance of winning the pennant than our current set of beloved boys in blue pinstripes?! I bet they'd play hard for Piniella.

Very nice! FYI, there are a bunch of T205 Cubbies whose autographs are so tough that I have not even seen examples of them. So many members of the 1911 Cubs passed away at young ages. There are others of which I only know of one or two examples. Some of the tough/impossible men include: Bill Foxen, Peaches Graham, Steinfeldt, Harry McIntyre, Tom Needham, Orval Overall, among others. You know it's a tough team autograph set when noted HOF rarity Frank Chance is more common than a handful of the others! From that list, I have only owned McIntyre and Overall (still own them, in fact), as well as most of the easier-to-procure players.

Forgive me, I normally don't toot my own horn, simply because my collection and pickups are drawfed by most others here (indeed, several cards valued well in excess of this complete set are traded here every day!), but this Quest has been one of the more exhausting of my collecting "career" and I am happy to have finished a couple of significant team sets in T205 and T206 Cubs (I will post the same Show N Tell post for the T206s once I have them all in hand, in SGC holders).

Although I posted purposely small pics for screen viewing, you'll notice that none of the cards I collect achieve a technical grade in excess of a SGC50/PSA4. My budget was strained just to accomplish this, but I try to be selective about eye appeal and I think I have put together a good looking set for the grades. Most expensive card was the $200 for Graham, I believe.

I like the consistency, and I love the holders.

A question for all:
Is blue the scarcest color background used in the set?
only 2 in this set of 19...wondering if that carries throughout...

Jason,

If you get a chance, post your T207 Cubs. Would love to see them. Also, are yor T207 all recruit backs or do you have different backs on some of the cards? I am short Miller and Saier for my T207 cubs.

minus the ultra-scarce & expensive Ward Miller (maybe someday, if it's a gift!) happy.gif

All are Recruit backs, by the way, except Saier, which is Anon. I'm not much for paying more to get a different or scarce back. This was hard enough!

Jason - that's a great accomplishment! I've been looking fora few months for Cleveland T207s to put together a team set and have had little success. How long did that take you?

This took about 2 years. I lucked out though.

One of our fellow Board members went in on the T207 lot of the Lionel Carter auction a while back, and then looked to sell off dupes. I picked up the 4 Lionel Carter's at once!

I am considering it a complete set, because the Miller is too tough for my budget, and doesn't come available all that often. Having said that, Saier and Schulte aren't all that easy to find neither!

Jason,

Great collection. I saw a saier once but it was trimmed and they wanted $900.00 for it. Passed due to price. I have never seen other backs rather than the recruit but I am always looking. If I ever get the chance and the card is not trimmed, I will get the Saier and Miller. I also collect e121 New York Americans and I just recently picked up a series of 120 Ruth. Nice card but trimmed but he does go with the collection at a reasonable price. This set also has some difficult cards so it will take me awhile.

Ken

P.S. all of these will be in SGC holders.

Jason,

That is indeed impressive. I've often dreamed about completing a T205 Cubs set. It remains a dream as I own a total of three (3) and they are raw.

The other team I would want would be the Tigers as I at least have the Cobb already.

I look forward to seeing the T206 Cubs. I only own one of those (Overall)
