Default Love Of The Game All-Boxing Auction In The Fall

I guess I can let the cat out of the bag now since the next catalog from LOTG will have the announcement anyway:

LOTG and I have entered into a consulting relationshipfor boxing materials that will culminate in what we plan to be an annual all-boxing (and wrestling) auction plus enhanced boxing (and wrestling) content during other auctions.

I am not taking on any ownership or management role in the company, just independently consulting for LOTG.

My focus will be on consignment review, catalog descriptions and lotting; the latter two are my long-standing pet peeves as to how boxing materials are currently presented by most auctioneers. My goal is to present items the way I'd want my collection presented: maximizing both the consignor returns and the convenience of collectors in accessing specialty materials they need. What I can promise you will not see in the lot structures I recommend or the descriptions I draft are rare items buried inside piles of other stuff due to ignorance, lotting that puts the convenience of the auctioneer above the needs of the collector, or items that do not belong together lumped into lots, other than perhaps the occasional intentionally-created grab-bag of lower value items (all of which will be accurately described, naturally). I plan to bring the same rigorous research as I've done with my book into this endeavor.

We are targeting the fall for the first of the auctions and if it goes well we plan to make it an annual event. Al will be handling the actual consignments: please contact him for details and terms. I will be fielding any content-specific consignment questions Al refers to me.

Great, and please spread the word to any luddite boxing collectors you may know: there will be an actual catalog for the non-paperless.

This thread was just brought to my attention so I thought I'd chime in:

I'm really excited about this. Adam and I were talking at the National about the boxing hobby, and about how under-represented we think it is, given its deep history. We started talking about doing an auction exclusive to boxing, and really giving the material the attention deserves, and I got really excited about the idea.

It's super-helpful to have a guy like Adam on board, because his knowledge is so strong. I am really looking forward to getting this rolling - the consignment push has already begun - so if any of you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out at info@loveofthegameauctions.com.

Thanks!
-Al
