Anybody planning on going to the show this weekend? I am planning on going either Friday or Sunday and would like to meet fellow Net 54ers!

I will probably be there Saturday...no high hopes on finding anything interesting though. Probably just a social trip for me.

I'm fairly new to this board and this is my first post. This will be my first West Coast show (recently moved to Los Angeles) and although I have not heard raving reviews of this show I still want to go, if just to see some vintage cards this weekend and mix with real live collectors.

The show isn't bad. There still is a bunch of pre war tables there. The last time I was there I bought about a half dozen goudeys for a decent price. Its really the only show in Southern Cali that I know of.

I am pretty sure I am going to go on friday for a couple of hours.

For playtime mostly. I can't recall the last "gotta have it" card I saw there but the social aspects are really nice and Mastro supposedly is going to be on site taking consignments, so I can bring all that bulky stuff I don't want to ship.

I will be there all weekend. I have set up at this show all but the very first one. I am on the left end of the first row facing the door. I will give a nrmt card from the 70's of a hall of famer to anyone who asks, until my supply is out. I know that the cards are not pre war, but they are free. The pre war are for sell.

I would love to have a place to meet all you Net 54ers. However, it seems that most of you are going on saturday. If anybody decides to go drop me an email and we can meet up!

Just a quick recap of the show

There were about seven to eight tables with pre war cards. Seems that everytime that I go to this show there is less and less. Nothing to special, some T204,T205, and T206's at about the price everyone would expect at a card show. There were a few E92's and some mid grade material such as a nice T205 Walter Johnson in a PSA 5. Somebody has a nice E95 Cobby, SGC 10, but with great eye appeal and I think they were asking around $1200. Now that I think about it, I did see two Old Judges and a N300 in mid grade.

The highlight of the show was seeing Memory Lane's Plank that was discussed on the BST. Even though it was in low grade, it was still fun to hold it!

Overall, I still enjoy going to these shows even though there isn't that much pre war material. I am pretty sure that not everyone was set up this afternoon, as there were a few uninhabited tables.

Good luck to all of you who go tomorrow!

Jeff W.

Quan, I would go check out the T206 Plank, its still fun to see one in person. I know its a long shot, but I was hoping that Beckett would have been showing off their newly discovered Wagner. But no dice!

Jeff W.

Edited to add that there was a brown hindu for sale in poor condition for $150 bucks

I went to the show on Saturday. Not sure what anyone else thought, but I was disappointed with the turnout all the way around. There were far fewer tables than normal. (The tables usually set up on the outside patio were not there with a number of tables missing at the west end next to PSA's table.)

I didn't see too many people in line for the Dodgers that were there signing autographs. I thought Saturday's crowd was lighter than normal. I spoke to a couple of dealers who said there were only about 150 people there Friday night and that sales had been slow.

Memory Land had a table set up featuring their T206 Plank card. Marion from Maraya Sportscards had a handful of nice T206 cards. Marty had a nice display of vintage cards including the previously mentioned E95 Cobb and E95 Matty. Mcavoy Cards also had a nice display of 1967 Topps Venezulea Retirado cards.

There were also a few items from American Memorabilia's current auction on display including a 1955 Stan Musial uniform and a Gil Hodges uniform with Mastro present at the show looking for consignments.

I guess there were deals to be found, but I left emptyhanded.

Did anyone who went to the show pickup anything cool?

I was there Saturday morning, and was also surprised by the turnout. They moved all the outside tables inside, which was just as well since they weren't close to full. Global was a no show, and the vintage dealer turnout seemed a bit weaker than usual.
I picked up a bunch of '41 Goudey's and some Fine Pens from Marty, but that was about it.

I no longer go with the expectation of finding anything great. Picked up a few cards from Marty for my 1968 Atlantic Oil set but that was about it. And dropped some stuff for Mastro's future auctions. At least I confirmed that Beckett will grade my Fro-Joys.
