Wow, that's really hard to look at after always searching and looking at 1914-1919 photo's of him.

I've recently seen a number of photos of him in that last year or so, but that one takes the cake as "worst of the worst." Just sad what he was reduced to at the end.

So sad to see a man like that cut down by cancer.

I remember reading one of the books that came out about Babe in 1974 when Aaron was gonna pass him. Not sure which one, but it had a similar picture (same day) in the book. I looked at it a lot and decided they had made a mistake and that was not the Babe. I thought for sure it was an old woman. Sad what cancer will do.

And to contrast, here he is on June 19, 1948, just about 5 weeks earlier and less than a week after his final appearance at Yankee Stadium. He definitely went downhill FAST there at the end. I think it would be interesting, though a bit depressing, to see a daily progression over those last couple of months of his life

Default In one of the bios

Mentioned that was written in that 1973-74 time frame, it was mentioned that some of the Babe's photos during the 1948 Babe Ruth day look ghastly.

There is no doubt that he did not die well -- but the weirdest thing in that horrible babe ruth movie where they show him being wheeled off at the end of the movie for special cancer treatments and research -- that turned out to be documented as fact more than 60 years later

Default July 1947

Here we see Babe on his American Legion tour on July 13 1947.
Babe is looking frail in this pic. It was taken 13 months prior to his passing. Ruth loved kids and he loved baseball. He chose to soldier on through his declining health to help reach out to kids and promote his game.
I pulled up one my old auctions to post this pic. I no longer have this one.

Forgive the glare and bad picture, but I took this while it was hanging on my wall. I forget the specifics, but it's a Type I newspaper photo dated August 15, 1948. The day before he died. Quite possibly his last picture ever (at least that's how the Auction House described it).
