Default 1923 Yankee Stadium First Year Type 1 photo - SOLD

Great Type 1 photo of the original Yankee Stadium from early April 1923. This super image was captured just a few weeks before the first game ever at this historic ballpark.

The photographer was Izzy Kaplan of New York. Kaplan's stamp is present on the back.

The back is date stamped APR -7 1923.

Photo measures 9" x 7".

The photo was found in a scrapbook of former Yankees player Bob Shawkey. All items in the scrapbook were laminated onto pages. The lamination appears as extra gloss on the photo and also makes the photo a little bit thicker to the touch. I was able to remove most of the scrapbook page from the back except for the small dark area which is part of the page on which this photo was placed. The small piece is attached firmly and I didn't want to damage the photo, so I left it. There is a one and a half inch piece of tape on the upper right corner. This photo remains in good shape. My scanned image doesn't do justice to this beautiful photo. The photo is much sharper and detailed in hand.

Default Flag pole

Is that flag pole in center field?

That is a flag pole in centerfield. It was in-play, so call it a "fair" pole.
