Default SSPC Baseball Set

While doing some research today on the earliest card of Willie Randolph, I noticed that he appears in the SSPC baseball set from the mid-1970's, most commonly referred to as a 1975 issue. Since Randolph did not play his first Major League game for Pittsburgh until 1976, the issue date for this set must be 1976 not 1975. This affects several "Rookie Cards" from this set including, Jim Rice, George Brett, Robin Yount, Gary Carter & Dennis Eckersly (who is the only one that still remains a Rookie Card).

I've always loved the simplistic beauty of this set. Not that it's the most original design(It's clearly not), but they're nice cards and have never gotten the respect that I feel they deserve in the hobby. Keith Olberman was the editor or proofreader or something along those lines for the write-ups on the back.. It's always been my understanding that the set was from '76.. I've never been able to understand why PSA and a few other people still lists it as '75. Can anyone elaborate on this? Did the first series of it come out in '75?

Default As far as I know

This is a 1976 set, I think the 1975 came out because some dealers wanted the Brett, Yount, Carter cards to be RC's

Rich

PS Randolph played for the Pirates in 1975

FYI-There were a few different SSPC sets other than the main 630 card issue. Five or so in '75 and three more in '76; a few others came out in '78. These other set were more in the team-issue camp mostly.
