Is there a good site to research the first black MLB player?
Doing a school project with my daughter. This is one way I can work sports into their lives without the wife complaining... JC

but your name doesn't yield an e-mail address.

Click on "Google," type in "Jackie Robinson" and choose "The Sporting News" entry on the first page. Lots of articles you can read from a drop down menu, lots of photos, bio, etc.

If you want to find out about Moses Fleetwood Walker, you can type that name in at Google too, with good results. I will NOT post my photo again! See how good I am?

Jim:

The Library of Congress has a nice online exhibit called "Baseball and Jackie Robinson." The timeline is especially good, and has some good essays and links to primary documents (Branch Rickey excerpts, Jackie Robinson letters, photographs, lobby cards) and other sources for baseball's breaking the color line. It's a kid-friendly site as well.

Not to totally get off the subject but just to make a correction, the first known black player was Bill White who played 1st base for the 1879 Providence team.Fleetwood and his brother Wellday were the last to play before Robinson
