Default Question on M114s

Posted By: jackgoodman

Just picked up 4 M114 (I think) prints of Matty, DiMaggio, Gordon and Dickey. They all measure exactly 9 1/2 x 12 and all have pinholes in the corner from being hung somewhere. Can the experts out there give me an idea of value. Here is the Matty (scanner couldn't do the entire image). Thanks in advance.

Default Question on M114s

Posted By: fkw

They are listed in the SCD Catalog under "Baseball Magazine Player Posters" and were issued between 1910-1957 with about 10-25 different per year on average (there are hundreds of them). There is a Mathewson in the 1913 year ($250 NRMT) and also in the 1941 year ($60 NRMT). There is a DiMaggio in the 1936 year ($80 NRMT). There are so many its tough to locate a single poster since old players were also issued many years after they played.

Default Question on M114s

Thanks fkw. Then I'm assuming there is no way to tell if it's an "older" Mattey or a more recent one. Or is there some way to date the picture based on the title info printed at the bottom? Thanks.

Default Question on M114s

Posted By: fkw

Im not sure, someone else might know more info, I have never owned one of these. The example picture in catalog is a Jimmie Foxx and it looks similar to your Matty in design, so I think yours might be the 1941 one, but not sure. Is there any kind of copyright date at the bottom??

Default Question on M114s

Posted By: Frank Wakefield

I think what you have there is the later one, an M114. The M113s are bigger, and that would be the 1913 ones to which fkw refers. The M113s are 18 or 19 inches tall, and about 10 inches wide. I have a couple, but can't get to them. The M114s are about the size you mention. I think they're great, but folks overlook them because of their size. And I guess slabbers would have a tough time getting them slabbed...

Default Question on M114s

That could be my problem, the last SCD big book I bought was the 1995 edition and they are not in there. Thanks everyone for the input.

OK, finally got my M113s out and photographed. They are 19 1/4 " tall, and 10" and 12" wide.

Frank.
