Default MASTRO update ... I am pulling out ...

Posted By: HalleyGator

I just wanted to let my friends on this board know that I am pulling OUT of the bidding for the 1894 Baltimore Cabinet card (bidding ends tonight).

Thus, if you wanted it and were NOT bidding on it because you just love me so much ... then have at it!!

...I've decided NOT to bid on Kevin Costner's 1973 High School yearbook. But I may still go for Muhammed Ali's cup. That and Ty Cobb's stetson, and I would feel huge and mean.

I'd have to win a tobacco lawsuit before I could afford that one

How can you live with yourself knowing that just a few dollars are seperating you from true happiness? Surely there is a junior associate at the firm that you can make chase just one extra ambulance a week.

Still crunching numbers... I was completely and utterly obliterated on lot 504 (1915 CJ near set) - I can't believe it's over 14k w/ juice now!

2 for 7, being the underbidder on 5 lots. Hit so many proxies, I almost forgot what they looked like.

High on 3 bids for Day 2 and if I get outbid - it will be an early night.

I was 0-4 in my first Mastro experience. The tobacco lots also seemed to go high, even without the juice.

Maybe tonight will be better - in any case, it's a lot of fun to watch! I didn't realize how much of the bidding occurs after auction close. The t206 Stahl proof I debated so long about bidding to $1,100 ended up over $1,800.

The T207 Red Cross I had some interest in went for $4,000 more than the "buy it now" price on ebay a few months ago.....just wait till another one comes out in a few months for less.....or maybe that only happens to me guess I will save my sheckels for the Lipset as there are no other "types" tonight that I can not live without...best regards all......

I can find a little ray of sunshine in this fact:

My Maximum Bid of $8,888 on the 1894 Balitmore Cabinet Card was topped only ONCE, with that bidder winning the card. Thus, I was the second-highest bidder.

Thus, I can take full credit for driving the price up high and making Kevin Struss and his Mastro boys some extra money.

Had I never bid on the card, it might have gone for much less.

Hal, perhaps when you find a way to make it to the National - we'll have a free meal at Gibson's for our "underbidder" roles.

Deja-vu, reminds me of going to the casino's - free food when you play $50/75 hands of blackjack for a bit...yummy!

Or you end up like me and switch to $50/$100 bets and then get your picture taken and escorted out of Bally's in Atlantic City for counting cards

yeah, I don't even use a counting system in Tahoe or Reno beucase a lot place have single decks and even with 2 decks shoes I can pretty much remember ever card that has been played. I've learned my lesson and don't stay in one consino very long.

if Mastro would run a supplement at the end of their auction with the names and pictures of winning bidders. I'd love to see who the guys are who are hammering me every auction at the end.
