First thread was starting to slooooooooow down.

I just got these glass negatives in the mail today. I don't have a scanner that will scan transparencies so it will be a bit before I can get all six loaded. So for now this is what I have.

I picked up 2 Eagles pennants recently that I've never come across before. The first is a 1941 Eagles pennant that predates their Green uniforms (in 1941 they wore blue and gray. I have a pennant with the same military looking Eagle that has Green and White colors.
I also picked up this unusual 1960's Eagles pennant that I'd never seen before.

Some new items to show

After seeing in Paul Muchinsky's book, had to have it, and finally found one. Not too vintage, but apparently tough to find. Took me over a year.

Wonderful pickups, Mike! I especially love the Naps/LaJoie Piece. Those sure don't surface very often!

Thanks Mark! Have also been amazed at the many unique and interesting items you have shown.

Edit: It seems like one surfaces maybe every couple of years (maybe less). I know REA, Hunts, and I believe Mastro have auctioned them in the past. I thought this one was going to get a little more action, glad it didn't. The thing I like about memorabilia is you can pick items of certain players for fractions of what the cards go for. And as you already know, sometimes the items are much more scarce than many of a player's cards.

Mike

Mike... Great point! That's why I prefer memorabilia to cards, as well. I am sure that your LaJoie Scorer is far rarer than any of his cards (including the fabled 1933 Goudey).

But I bet it went for a "song", when compared to the Goudey, or even a nice condition Cracker Jack or Caramel Card. Can you even imagine a Nap LaJoie CARD that would surface only once every two years (and how much it would sell for?)

Your scorer/fob makes for a neater display piece as well... congrats!

Great pickups Mike!!! There are Lajoie cards that I would argue are much rarer than the watch fob, but I agree there are no better bargains in this hobby than some of the memorabilia items. I'd much rather have that fob than many of his cards that go for 10x the price.

It seems as though one of those Omaha moundsmen has got the Lovesick Blues after feasting on a bowl of Jambalaya. It's crazy.

Just picked this up--the cap worn by pitcher Marty McHale during his 1913-1915 tenure with the Yankees.
(It is quite possibly the oldest Yankee cap extant.)

It's certainly retained its color wonderfully. I'm sure you'll be enjoying that one for years to come.

Thanks, Guys.

The cap is ex-Halper. I almost bought it a few years ago from the guy who obtained it at the Halper auction, but I didn't have the scratch. So now I wind up buying it from the Halper+2 owner. McHale signed the cap inside the sweatband. It is in great shape, and I'm thrilled.

Amazing, David... earliest photo-match I've ever seen!

You can clearly see that little abraison at the same spot (base of the cap's bill). What an amazing find... both cap and the photo-match. Congrats!

It's also amazing that the cap was signed. David, was the cap signed in cursive or printed style? McManus' autograph is of course a fairly easy acquisition, but that statistic gets thrown out the window when dealing with something this unique and displayable.

These came from two different sources (the 1907 from last night's Hunt auction, the other two a result of a B/S/T transaction). Can anyone confirm that Lajoie guides were produced only in 1906, '07 and '08? I'm sure I once knew the years but have forgotten and cannot find the source of the info. Any help would be appreciated.

I picked up these 2 vintage football related items lately.

The first is a period framed F Early Christy Univeristy of Penn College Girl Drawing. The piece is pencil signed by Christy, and appears to be hand colored or painted, and not a print.

The second is large copyright 1909 football print entitled An Offsides Play, and features a football player in period football gear, with a college girl sporting a Lehigh? pennant.

I would have thought the first photo would be Princeton since it is Orange and Black which was the colors of the Princeton Tigers. I think that would actually make it more valuable since Princeton was THE Football powerhouse of 1890-1915 or so. Were they Penn's colors too?

Thanks Carlton,

The Penn one is 10 by 15 inches, and the Lehigh is 22 x 15.
I am familiar with Christy's football themed postcards and his art on mugs etc, but in my limited experience I have not seen one like this before that appears to be hand signed, and hand drawn/colored.

I picked both up in a "box" lot in Hunts last internet auction.

Here's a photo I just picked up on eBay of the 1942 James Madison High School baseball team. Evidently, they won the Brooklyn city championship. Cal Abrams, who later played on the Dodgers, reportedly was on the team. I'm guessing he's standing, the third guy on the right ...

Here's another eBay bargain bin special, a circa 1940 photo of Whitey Kurowski wearing a Rochester jersey ...

Hello Guys
First let me say I am a card collector but use to collect some memoralibilia. I had complete sets of baseball & Western Hartlands at one time among other bobbing heads and the like. But the last few years have strictly been into Pre-War cards. Anyway I was at the Tri-star show today and bought these 3 pennants, I just saw them and liked them. I found the small Yankee's pennants in the book , but like to know more about them. I think there from 1934. Anyway the bottom pennant I couldn't figure out if it was a baseball pennant or advertising Pennant for Juke Box or what. After a little searching seems it's an advertising pennant for one of the most sought after Baseball Pinball machines ever made. The playing field even had names of stars like Dizzy Dean on it. I'm including a link to the website of the Pinball machine, Please check it out as it looks like a masterpiece as the website says. Just thought I would share it with you.
Anymore info on the pennants would be helpful. The yankee penneants seem to be in very nice condition.

Nice little pennants Jerry. Sorry I cant provide any additional info on them but would like to say thanks for posting the link to the Rock-ola game. Something I never get tired of seeing. Dont think there is any one item I would rather have than that game. Simply amazing. That pennant is a really unique, cool advertising piece for the game. Nice find and thanks for sharing.

Picked up a neat lot (18) of 1936 Yankees photos - taken at various ballparks

Photobucket

Photobucket

Nice shot of Yankee players in the Cleveland outfield at League Park. I hadn't realized that the Indians were still playing in League Park in 1936, but this photo led me to investigate and sure enough they were splitting games between League and Municipal.

The Indians played some games in League Park through the 1946 season, I believe. I have some ticket stubs from the 1940s that have two seat locations printed on them: one if that game was at League Park and another if the game was at Cleveland Stadium.

There were no closeup shots of Gehrig, but he may be in a few of the photos with many players in it. I think these photos probably originated from a former player since most of them were taken on the field or from the dugout.

Just going by uniform numbers I see Bill Dickey, Red Rolfe, and Joe DiMaggio (wearing number 9 which he wore his rookie year.) Gehrig could be one of the other players.

Photobucket

I believe this is probably Gehrig at bat here since you can see Bill Dickey on deck. Dickey hit in the 5 spot behind Gehrig in 1936.

Photobucket

Here are a few more from the lot.

Boy...look at all those dedicated St Louis Browns fans. (Ben Chapman at bat)

Man
Only if we could go back in time and watch those games. I beat it would be easy to talk with the players considering how many people were in the stands. I would ask them for their jersey(buy vintage money off ebay and than time travel). How much do you think they would sell their jersey to you for $3.00. Also im sure that is gehrig in the one photo. Look how close the camera man is to the batter and catcher, i wonder if they ever got hit by the baseball. Nice pickup

Dan,

I am assuming that this one is from the same grouping as the recently-posted Werber. Again, not Brown's sig--just a nicely-scripted identifier.

You should send the Werber pic to be signed. Not that it would add much value to the piece, but it's always neat to have something signed by a centenarian after he's reached that milestone! Knowing Bill, he would most likely send along a handwritten note attesting to the fact that the vintage ink is not in his hand!!! He's a class act.
