Default Locations of Prior Nationals

I attended this year which makes 10 different Nationals for me. I was trying to recall all of the prior locations and corresponding years. Anybody have a list? I recall Houston a while back but dont remember the year.

Thanks

Mike

Until someone provides a comprehensive list, I'll chip in with 1995, St. Louis.

The first 5 Nationals were 1980 through 1984 at the following locations: Los Angeles, CA; Plymouth (Detroit), MI; St. Louis, MO; Chicago, IL; and Parsippany, (New York) NJ. They were all great shows especially in terms of the fellowship experienced by table holders and browsers alike. (And sales weren't too bad, either.)

My four favorite Nationals have been 1986 and 1990 in Arlington, 1995 in St. Louis and 2 years ago in Chicago. I know there were huge crowds for the first 3 and that was back when the hobby was still busting at the seams, but personally I'd like to see the National go back to Dallas (Arlington) or St. Louis or perhaps Minneapolis/St. Paul. This Cleveland-Chicago-Anaheim trimuverate is really getting old.

Definitely get rid of Cleveland, when I think about Cleveland, Drew Carey comes to mind and not baseball. St. Louis would be a better venue.

Kansas City used to have tremendous shows in the eighties and in to the nineties. Their shows rivaled the National in my mind. Every year there would have not only tons of dealers, great crowds but Dimaggio or Mantle or Williams. Every year. I winder if KC should be given another chance....

Chicago held it in 2005, and it was in Anaheim last year.

No offense to Clevelanders, but there is absoilutely nothing to see or do in Cleveland. If your spouse or significant other who is not in to cards attends, Chicago offers a lot, Cleveland very little. The transportation system in Chicago makes it easy to get around to these places also. Two years ago we went to the Comedy Club one night and my wife went to the great history and art museums there while I card shopped. Other than the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland had zilch. She just laughed when I asked her if she wanted to go to Cleveland.

I remember being at the Plymouth National in '81, I was 10 and dealers would literally just give me things. "You want T206's kid? Here take 5." "You only have 20 bucks...don't worry about it kid." I bought one 1970 Nolan Ryan(not vintage I know) and the guy gave me 4. It struck me as strange at the time, but now they have a customer for life in a sense. I think it's called growing the hobby or something like that...

I would have sworn that the 1988 National was in SF. Apparently it was 1987. I'm more of a senile old fart than I thought. In any event, I picked up this card there.
