Default Info and Cleaning Advice Needed Pls - LVS 40 N.B. "NIGHT BALL" SPECIAL MODEL Bat

I believe this bat dates to 1916-1929, correct? Interested in understanding what the "hook" was...why did LVS make a "night ball" bat? It is a 34 inch bruiser of a bat!

Any advice on how to effectively and safely clean the darkened barrel would be appreciated. I wiped some dish soap over the lettering so one can read the stamping clearly in the photo. Thanks!

Thanks Matt. Any idea why "Night Ball" was used as a selling feature? Why partial barrel flame burning?

The style of '&' used on this bat was used on pro bats in 1933/34.

Yep, you definitely don't want to clean wood bats with water.

Thanks Tim and Nate. Ever see a night ball bat before? Why would this be a selling feature?

If this is a pro model bat then maybe this was a promotional model made for a player or players who played for a team that had electric lights on their field.

No, not a pro model bat. Just used a feature taken from a pro brand.

Best bet might be to contact Louisville Slugger or check through H&B catalogs from the mid-30s (1933-36 or so to see if there is any mention of these being offered or even introduced.

Thanks again Tim. Question...didn't LVS branding adjust to "TRADE MARK REG" below the oval in 1930?

No. Trademark Reg didn't come about until around 1936.

Pic below is the center label from my 1933-34 Rabbit Maranville gamer.
