Default 1970s Red Sox Team Issued Cards

Hi-

I recently acquired a horde of 1970s Red Sox team issue photos (200 or so) and I have a few questions about them. Does anyone know the specific year of issue for these? I have seen some from this group labeled 1973 or 74 (Evans) but because of Eck and others I doubt it is that early. Could these be from several different years? Can anyone please identify the players? I identified the ones I know below. Please post any information you have regarding the 1970s Red Sox team issued photos/premiums, and also please feel free to post examples from your collections.

Alan

Eck, Lynn, ?
? Rice ?
Evans, Fisk, ?

Yaz, Yaz, ?

Carney lansford is next to Rice and I believe that's Mike Torrez to Jim's right. Frank Tanana is in the bottom row.

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

I believe that is Bill Campbell to the left of Tony Perez.

You have 3 different years of dewey, 2 different of yaz. Some have facsimile, some don't. Definitely different sets. On the right of 4th row is tony Perez.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the identifications.

Dan, I thought they might be from different sets but they were all jumbled together in a large trash bag when I found them. I am guessing the person I bought them from purchased all of the leftovers in the early 1980s. He liked to buy in bulk back then.

If possible, please post any you have to differentiate the year of issue. It would help me as I am sure I have other Sox team issues in my binders that I could use information on figuring out the year of issue.

Thanks,
Alan

You could try comparing with yearbooks. I can easily see the sox getting lazy and using the same photo for the team issued cards and the yearbook.

I was in the Boston area when these were current, and I don't recall any info about them that I thought was reliable. There were color issues too, with one of them being either a team issue, or sometimes attributed to McDonalds.

It's entirely possible they issued them constantly over several years, the left Yaz looks more early 80's, the right one more mid to late 70's, maybe earlier.

And another Marc Clear next to Campbell. He looks like that photo was taken either really late or really early. Mugshot worthy

I agree that Frank Tanana is the middle player on the bottom row of pictures. He only played for the Red Sox in 1981

And Fred Lynn was gone in 1981. You have as noted a mix of years. To sell, I'd just do something such as 1975-1982 Lot of Red Sox Team Issues. (Note -- I did not research to check the exact years)

Accurate except Marc Clear is both #9 and #10, One taken on a vibrant day for him and the other, not so much.

Because it was requested, here are one example each from my Sox issued team sets. Sorry for the giant scans.

This "picture pack was also issued in '71:

Cards like the one below were offered as cutouts in the '74 Yearbook. Mine is a much rarer blank back (the only one I've seen). I traded my blank back Fisk to a player collector for a $300 Yaz card

This last one is from '77:

Thanks Dan and the other responders! It is really good to know as I plan on keeping one of each different player in my Red Sox collection. Bruce, I will send you a Rice if you can PM me your address.
