I know that Jim's son Bart posted here recently; condolences to him and his family. My wife knew the family when she grew up in Wisconsin and said they were some of the nicest people she's ever known.

Here is a link to Jim's grandson, Taylor Twellman ... 2005 MVP of Major League Soccer. I post this only because the resemblance to Jim's picture on the 1953 Topps posted above is striking:

From the article Jeff posted, it sounds like Jim Delsing lived an honorable, charitable life, and was blessed with healthy children and grandchildren. IMO, one can do no better than that.

The 1930s-40s All-American & Chicago Bears All-Pro running back Marshall Goldberg died recently. A couple of years ago I had on eBay an original 1940s photo of Goldberg shot for 'Marshall Goldberg Day' in Chicago. The photo showed Goldberg in full cowboy suit, holdig a football in one hand an a six-shooter in the other. After the auction the winner told me he was Goldberg's grandson. He said the 80s year old Marshall looked at the eBay listing and said he'd never seen that photo before, so his grandson won it for him.

Whether star or common player, the legacy of a MLB baseball player is that people will be collecting his picture card and reading the biography and stats on back 100 years from now.
