Default Show your Satchell's!

Won this on eBay last night and would love to see other Paige cards. He was one of the all-time greats!

Not quite pre-war, but I love this one. Wish I had a bigger scan of it handy to post, but will put this one up for now at least....

In one of the Auction Houses, can't remember which one.
I know B&L had one and Mile High had a very nice one I wanted last year
The goal is to try to find one that's focused, not fuzzy looking. I wasn't worried to much on the o/c or anything, but this one had it all at the right price to me.
When they do come up, there will be bidders on them. GL finding yours.

Oomph! A.J. I was winning that Paige with about 10 seconds to go last night. It's a real beauty, I'm glad it's in the hands of a net54er. Wasn't quite sure if I was going to replace my current one but I wanted to at least see if it passed my eye test. Feel free to post more pics once it gets to you in the mail. Here's my current one

Best I could do for most of the Negro League HOFers was the 74 Laughlin set. Don't have a scan of the Satchel alone.

Nice cards and items, all. I waited years to find a piece like this and went all out to get it when it came up for auction. 1953 St. Louis Browns team issued PC, signed and mailed in 1953. The message on the back in Paige's handwriting says "Please send stamp envelop for photo" [sic]

Real nice SGC graded card posted a day or two ago on eBay. Nice looking card. Some of the well written hyperbole seems warranted.

I saw it too...Carterscards. SGC 45/3.5
I wrote about this one in another forum.
Basicaly gonna re-post what I wrote:

For a moment I thought it was one of those fake or Rp cards, but noticed SGC slab..Wonder sometimes if a TPG mis-slabs one of those RP cards??? I cant believe the sharp colors on this one. If this was from some other seller with low feedback, I would thought this was 'cracked out' and inserted a fake.

Agree. Way sharper colors that typically seen. Can't believe the guys at SGC would screw up on a card like this so I'll give him a strong presumption of authenticity.

Carters tried selling as a BIN for 18,750 ended March 10th
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-Leaf-LE...p2047675.l2557
Do they think they could get that?? Really?? Maybe they should try a AH.

Seems a little frothy.
I posted my PSA 3 that I bought last year for less than half of that.
I'd say this goes for 10-12 max.

Exactly. I replied that a PSA 3 in MileHigh went for near 9k. And B&L had a PSA 4 that went for 9900 or so last year as well.
Given the color, I think you hit the price range, lets just see what a Ebay audience says compare to a AH.

Josh - I can't hold myself as knowledgeable enough to opine independently on authenticity. All I can go for are the seller (seems legit) and its graded. Maybe others can weigh in on an cardboard analysis. I can't.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, the seller sure seems legit and the bids are rolling in.
My first evaluation is that it's legit and will end up around the 7-9k mark.

I tried comparing to better examples.
My 1st thing was looking at the red box. It has the shift to the right and up into the yellow part correct. That's good. The only thing is the darkness of the blue hat and red color bibb. I wish they had lighten the scan, looks like they had the lid open in a dark room. And the back words are so dark black. I cant compare it to anything yet. But I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn
As for the seller and grading, I concur looks legit.

Default PSA 2 arrived today

Registration is pretty good! very faint left edge crease and bottom staining are the big detractors

Better scans

If you happen to live in or be near St. Louis over the next couple of weeks, come to the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and enjoy the show - you can even get a free baseball card! (Let's see if we see any of these on the BST.)

I have many Satchel cards, postcards, photos, and memorabilia but my most prized Satchel is my son, Satchel Paige (+Surname). From 1988 and this past weekend....
