Default January pick ups.

I won this card last night. I bid on it a while ago and almost forgot about it

Received the e-mail notification stating I had won it so it's my first official P/U of 2017.

Well, technically, this is just beyond the board cutoff date of 1980, but I don't care. This is a vintage card, not a shiny card, so it belongs here.

Nothing really fancy, the card only cost about $11 + shipping. But it's the first card I've bought in some time, so it feels good to have something new to look at.

Latest addition to my Topps Robin Yount PSA master set. Really nice card with exceptional centering.

I'm hoping to make it back to work by the summer. If so, then I'll be able to really start playing with my collection again. I had to choose one "hobby", and my movie collection took precedence, as I'm going to write about film. 18 months later, and nearly 900 blu-rays into my collection, I'm ready to get back to work on the '75 Topps set, the '53 Bowman and T206 set.

I overpaid for this one, but it was less than lower graded copies currently up for sale...and it completes my 'pseudo' Koufax master set (no bazookas yet)

NOTE: The real deciding factor in purchasing this card when I did was directly related to EBay's lowering of the base Ebucks reward from 2% to 1%.
I used all of my fourth quarter Ebucks to help pay for this one. I'll never be able to get that kind of boost at 1%

Also leaves only 11 cards, all vintage, on my official shopping list.

A great start the new year with some great pickups already.

Irv, way to start it off with a 52 Topps pickup. The set of sets to collect for sure. Congrats on adding Overmire to your collection.

Jerry, absolutely love the Spahn. I picked up a PSA 4 not long after I got back into collecting about 3 1/2 years ago. Classic pose of Spahn!!

Mike, Nuff said on the 52 Mantle!! Very Nice indeed.

Raymond, congrats on landing the Koufax. Great looking card congrats again on knocking that one off the list.

All of these cards were picked up this week. I just started the 61 Red Sox team set.

I love vintage league leaders cards and the star power on this one is pretty good, especially Minoso

The Hardy card cracks me up, with the badly airbrushed B on the cap, while he's clearly wearing a different jersey, which I believe to be the Senators'.

Both Wertz and Malzone are underrated. Back when hitting 20 HRs meant something, Wertz did it 6 times, with career highs of 32 HRs (1956) and 133 RBI (1949). He was a 4-time All Star. Malzone spent 11 of his 12 years with the Sox and was known for being a great defensive 3B with decent pop. He was a 6-time All Star. I had the pleasure of meeting him with my oldest son a few months before he passed away.

Schilling and Yaz were teammates in the minors with Minneapolis and both made their MLB debuts in 1961. They were always linked together, hence the "Sox Sockers" card with the 2 of them in the 1964 Topps sets.

been looking for one in my price range for some time. Really like the image, and for a 2, the corners and centering are pretty good

FREE with my eBay Bucks today.
Yankee Lot really fits my ongoing 54T set effort.

Also added this gorgeous 8OC. Somehow the spectacular image overrules the centering on this one. Its a keeper.

The stunning clarity of the art on this Mantle is off the charts Neal.
Nice centering too.

Nice stuff!

I haven't done anything big in the first week of the year but I did finish my Ryan 1970s run with these:

Also got started on OPC:

Mike already provided a years worth of Mantle Thunder above, but on my budget this is considered a "whale".
Humbled to own it.

Hi everyone--my name's Ross and I'm new to the Net 54 forums. I am a big Koufax collector and working on his master set. Here's what I've picked up so far this month. I had been looking for the '59 Morrell for a while so I'm happy to cross that one off the list!

I won't quote all of the pictures again, but nice pickups on those '61s earlier. I have always thought that is an underrated set.

Wow, great Mantles and the Koufax bunch is sweet too. Welcome to the board Ross. Great way to make an entrance!

Here's my take so far this month. The 1970s were the last two cards I needed to finish the set. I got antsy with the checklist as it was THE last card ... upon arrival it turned out to be more ex-mt than nm-mt so I will eventually upgrade. But at least I can finally call it complete!

I'm Ian, also fairly new here. Pretty humbled by the amazing cardboard shown here!

Here is my first addition of 2017. This marks the halfway point on my Boog Powell set, Love the clear picture on this one!

Ross,

Great to see the Koufax pickups. Keep up the cool looking items; I especially enjoy the odd-ball items.

That "Red" Rolfe card looks to be in ex/mint shape, Dave.

Nice P/U!

Default Bumped into George Foster

I was in a card shop last week, when George Foster came in. He was in great shape (looked like he could still play, although he's probably 66 or so now). We talked with him about his greatest memories (e.g. He was the reason Sparky had Rose move to 3rd base - to get his bat in the lineup). I had forgotten about his MVP season in 1977 (52 HRs and 149 RBI's - WOW).

Scurrying to find a card of Foster to sign, I located a 1977 (his MVP season) card and had him sign it.

I realize this isn't a super vintage card or anything, but it was a great experience.
