Boston Public Library Archived Baseball photos from 1917-1956

Found this article on MetaFilter (that hotbed of baseball talk site ). My apologies if this has been posted before, but I have been out of the Net54 "all male" clique for the past few months (sometimes it's nice to get away and smell Chanel N 5 for awhile.........so for the record I'm still not back):

I copied and pasted the original MetaFilter post and if I may add, the baseball pictures are fantastic but the car wreck pics darn near converted me into a Democrat. Here is the post:

Today, the Boston Public Library will publish on the Internet the first 100 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/boston_...7626281013667/) of a trove of nearly 3,000 rarely seen baseball photographs taken by Leslie Jones, who worked for the Boston Herald and the Boston Traveler from 1917 to 1956. Moments preserved by the shutter and squirreled away in his Dorchester basement, where he kept tens of thousands of images. The Boston Globe has a selection published here: http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ph..._leslie_jones/. The first batch of snapshots was released to coincide with today’s Opening Day at Fenway Park. Library staff plan to upload several dozen more images each week until all 2,881 photos are online. The project is part of a broader initiative by the library to give the public unfettered access to Jones’s entire archive of tens of thousands of images. He photographed car wrecks (http://www.lesliejonesphotography.co.../automobile/35) and ice-crusted fishing trawlers; shot luminaries like Albert Einstein and Amelia Earhart (http://www.lesliejonesphotography.co...t-grayson/50); and the people of Boston (http://www.lesliejonesphotography.co...t-artifacts/45).
