Default picked up my first Mantle (thanks to board member)

The next time I tell a non-collector friend about my addiction...err, collection, I will now be able to answer the inevitable question: "do you also have a Mantle rookie"? Most people simply don't know who Nestor Chlylak is!

Nice pick-up on the Mantle Rookie, Derek. That knocks off the most expensive post-war rookie card from the list............

Derek:

I'm sure that there are plenty of those to go around. Why don't you let me have the first one that comes up for sale/auction and then I'll lay off the rest.........

Really like that Mantle rookie card - something about a lot of wear on a desireable card that is intriguing, for some reason. Funny that so many for so long have regarded the 52 Topps as his rookie card,
despite his playing 96 games in the majors in 1951. I've never heard anyone try to claim the 52 Topps is Mays' rookie card, even though he played 121 games in the majors in 1951.

Default 1955 Doubleheaders

After finishing the T201 set, it's time to stay in the theme and go with the 1955 Doubleheaders. So far, I have an unopened pack (GAI 6) with Fred Marsh/Thies card inside, the Marsh Thies card (ungraded), Bilko/Milliken (UG), Spahn/Brewer (UG), Aaron/Herbert (SGC 70) and these two that I picked up this month!

Default 1955 DHs

This is a great set, both because of the unique double cards and because when you get the whole set the backs form great panoramic pictures. The packs became fairly plentiful recently and there are no surprises about what you have.

I recently found out one of the players in the 1955 DH set, Gair Allie ( pictured with Grady Hatton) still owns a Sports bar here in San Antonio

Hi Al - i really look forward to acquiring the whole set to check out the stadium shot. I just may have to break a few out of the PSA/GC holders to do it. I'm trying to collect most of them raw, but a nice mid-grade graded example of a HOF card, for a great price, is hard to pass up.

That's pretty cool that Allie is still around. Not too many of these guys are still here.

Not the greatest item. Seems kinda pointless to have had it slabbed. But I'm glad it was, because the price was pretty nice thanks to that 3..
