Default Warning !!!! Another T206 Back thread

Polar Bear:

I have owned the "missing scroll" backed PBs. I think they are kind of neat, but seems to be no premium attached.

I know of, and have seen, but never owned, a "missing ie" back. Some collectors will pay for them.

I have never, however, seen this, until now. An oddity of the "e" in "the."

It looks like a break, but maybe just an inking issue. Any thoughts, or has anyone seen this before ???

Not to say there is anything special about it , just something different

Fun stuff, Scott

Hi Scott,

In the past, Pat R. and myself have discussed some of the minor print defects on the backs of Polar Bear T206s. I guess with that much ink being printed on the backs, there was bound to be some ink slip outside of the lines. I'm not sure whether it was caused from wear on the printing plate, but there are quite a few little oddities to be found on Polar Bear backs.

Here is one that can be found on the back of Davis. Notice the "s" in "Best".

Check out the line (plate scratch?) on the back of these two different Polar Bears. Look above the "a" in "Polar".

I'd be delighted if the grading companies formally recognized the missing "IE" examples from the Polar Bear run - the notable one in my mind is Mickey Doolan (but that's primarily because I'm a Phillie Phan)

Default Mathewson-Pelty-Meyers Blotch

Love the topic!

Took a while to get all 3 cards, but I targeted the Mathewson, Pelty, and Meyers PB backs with blotch between the "o" and "l" in the word Polar for my subset. Believe they all shared the same position on printing sheet.
