Default So what do you think is most undervalued at REA right now?

Thought I'd try this as an experiment--maybe it is the third rail here, given competition for items... But perhaps some community-minded folks (who maybe never bid at REA or only go for a select few lot) would like to point to some cards at REA, with one day to go, that seem like they may end up as real bargains. Might be a fun exercise, or perhaps I am dreaming.... I will contribute that at least some of the great Rose PCs may go for nice prices...

Default Low , With A Day To Go......

..I expect a real dramatic frenzy bidding war over the '34 Exhibit card , autographed by Gehrig, Ruth, Etc. One of a kind......I'm glad I'm not into autographs.

I think you're dreaming. This kind of thread might make sense after the auction.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks there is a bargain to be had is probably planning to bid today or tomorrow. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to discuss them on Sunday.

On the one hand, I don't care and didn't expect much. On the other hand, it amazes me that people are protective of their self-interest--when there is literally a thousand lots that they are NOT bidding on that they might comment on. Gee, if anything, direct people AWAY from some lots you are interested in.

Secondly, while it's true that it's hard to say what final prices might be the day before there are also many cases where bidding on certain lots lag--right up until the end. It's not a waste to ID some of those. I've won many bargains that I assumed would take off and never did--with so much competition, as at REA.

Default Bargains

Bargains are typically not available at REA. See page 8753 of catalog under magnification. It is all spelled out perfectly

I put in some pretty healthy bids not even considering the 20% BP. Actually over market value. The last time I checked......well let's just say, I'm glad there is still the BST.

(Im not into the extended bidding stuff. Enter my best bid at the start and hope for good news Sunday morning.)

You may have a possibly lucrative business opportunity:

Introducing Acme Western Auction Knapper Enterprises - We'll bid to the knap, while you take a nap; all for a small NP (Napper's Premium).

An 09 Yankees world series ring for 10k seems like a bargain to me.

I don't think the answer to the original question is the '77 Reggie Jackson Orioles proof card. The card started at $1,000 and is now at $40,000.

That is out of whack. But lots of crazy bidding often takes place at REA in the after-hours portion of the auction. With 16 bids so far, there seems to be a lot of interest in your Mordecai Brown supplement. it could still shoot through the roof late tonight/early Sunday morning.

I'm tracking approx 50 lots and all except a couple are at or above historical highs. We're looking at a major record price setting auction tonight

Default Low priced

The Cameo Pepsin lots. I guess these are rare/obscure enough that no one collects them.

I think lot 1202, the 1989 Topps Wall Street IPO uncut sheet, could be had for a song. I mean, it features a Sandra Horbach rookie card. I'm sorry, but I don't know who would bid on this other than the people in the cards.

Unless you have the only bid on an item you haven't spent anything yet . I just spoke to a friend who said he is about to start bidding.....from his marker bids. I called another friend at 930pm and he was sleeping so he could get up at 2am. Who knows when it ends but a lot of bids are coming in...

If I recall, maybe 4-5 AM EST, as for ending...but it's their call.

I checked about 45 minutes ago and it was still going.

My plan to do two upgrades went bye-bye when one of them when through what I thought was the roof...higher dollar card with the 20% added get way too high too quick for me.

I think I'll pass the next time...hope I can resist.

Great auction, Brian!

What a fun finish. Some really surprising lots -- both on upside, and some at relatively bargains.

Closed 5:38 am EST.

I'm surprised how many bids were still going on between 4 am and the finish.

Yikes, no wonder I lose so much.

Mad I Missed this. I know it's not baseball... or pre-war but damn!! 52-53 Terry Sawchuck SGC 98 $1500

Seems it went for a small fraction of what it should. Sold at Mile High last year for more than double and that seems way to low. Am I missing something??
