Default We can help put the bad guys in prison

If people do something about the bad guys, even little things, we can accomplish a lot.

I just received this e mail from an Oregon detective:

"Good Morning Mr. Simon,

Thank you for your tip to our office in November of 2011--Chad Baldwin plead guilty and was convicted and sentenced to prison for these crimes. See the article below:

http://www.oregonlive.com/clackamasc...or_sellin.html

Respectfully,

Detective Dan Smith
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon

Subject: Criminal Activity Tip Sheet

Does this involve a current investigation: Case #11-11610

Does this involve something you heard on the new or in the paper: this involves a story that has been on the internet about Chad Baldwin.

Description of Criminal Activity: I have a blog on my website which is about autographs. I posted a story on the site about Chad Baldwin and your search warrant and investigation. Today I received an unsolicited e mail, allegedly from Mr. Baldwin. Here is the contents of the e mail: Hello. After reading the article on your website concerning the search warrant on my home on August 23,2011 concerning the claim of non legit certifcates being sold with signed items, I want to say that I was not arrested and as of today 11/24/2011 I have not been charged with a crime. There was no evidence recovered concerning me being appart of any deliberate forgery sales and no evidence proving ( other victims) as stated by the CCSO article. What there is however is a high number of people in the public that want to ignore the info that professionals in the industry have made available and continue to make purchases that are of risk even after being advised by the seller of the risk and having the chance to investigate the item in question before purchasing...Then afterwards if for some reason they are not happy then they turn to the police or some other person or agency for simpathy and help...Keep up the good work on your site!..CB -- The e mail address it came from is crbbaldwin@gmail.com

Damn ! this guy already served 7 1/2 years in jail for robbing an armored car ! I guess its true what Woody Guthrie said

“Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men; Some will rob you with a six-gun, And some with a fountain pen”

THIS GUY HAS TRIED BOTH !!!

It is great to see some positive energy here. This is awesome! Whatever bit of difference you made helping authorities putting this guy away should be commended. Great work Richard! Energy putting real criminals like this guy away is energy well spent!
Those mugs... YIKES! This guy is going to be bubba's best "friend".

My fondest hope and belief is that there are more copnvictions to come.
The members of this board are becoming activists and that is good. I am seeing a number of people posting about how they have complained and written to auction houses now. All of this helps.
Sitting on your butt and throwing a log on the fireplace won't do it now.
We need more activists and hope we get more law enforcement that will go after these guys and more auction houses that will follow the example of the two that have been mentioned here as doing the right thing.

I'd like to give a shout-out to Heritage auctions. There were some rings in their upcoming auction that were bogus and a real ring that had some issues they were unaware of.

Heritage did a great job of listening, researching and pulling the rings out of the auction. It's not their fault, there are so few ring experts in the hobby and an auction house can't be an expert in every minor collecting category.

Even better, after the rings were pulled, Heritage figured out a solution to this problem. Chris Ivy informed me of a new policy - going forward, their rings will be authenticated by an independent source before going to auction.

The new auction policy should help eliminate problems in this area of collecting.

Thanks Chris!

The guy directly to the right of him (Francis Parker Beeman), looks like an age progressed photo of what Chad Baldwin will look like when he gets out of prison.
