Default Baseball History help needed

Posted By: Scott Forrest

I am looking for info on the following:

Midwest Bloomer Girls - circa 1911
Japanese tour of the US - circa 1911
Buxton Wonders Negro baseball team - circa 1911
Kansas City, KS Giants - circa 1911

I know, I know - SABR. I've emailed all the various committees. I've also scoured the internet and been in contact with several historians who specialize in Professional Negro team history.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I will gladly trade information I have.

Scott,

Have you checked out Larry Lester's "Black Baseball in Kansas City"? I know it's the wrong state, but my recollection is that there is some info on the Kansas City, KS Giants. I can double check my copy if you like.

Hey Scott,
I've got a contact at the Negro League Museum here in KC that I will forward to you. I also just came across this on the internet -

Rob

That photo sold in Hunt auctions a while back for about $2K - I've also seen a copy that belonged to George Neal's daughter. The information I have on George Neal is conflicting, but that's him on the upper right.

I have only found two different photos of the Buxton Wonders - the one you posted probably corresponds closest to the 1911 team, but is missing the team's only white player. One of my goals is to i.d. the players in that photo.

No, I haven't seen Lester's book - I've spent 100's ordering books on the internet and decided to stop and start asking others to check their books. In any case, I now have a very large baseball reference library that continues to grow - hopefully I can help some of you all with research on your own projects.

Anything you can find in your book about the KC,KS Giants would be great - Here is the line-up I have for the 1911 team. In particular, I need their likely positions, and to confirm the first and last players, and also that DeMoss isn't actually a player named "Moss". Finally, I'm trying to locate photos of the players. Everything I've requested in the initial post relates to an article I am writing on baseball in Iowa, including teams they played.

I'm also interested in Japanese teams that toured the US around 1910-12.

1911 KC,KS Giants

Dee Williams (or 'J' Williams?)
Gene Milliner
William Tenny
Topeka Jack Johnson
Chin Norman
Ashes Jackson
Ginney Robinson
Bingo DeMoss (or Oscar Moss?)
Andrew Skinner (or Floyd?)
