I've been deeply troubled all day by the post by Jim Freeman, on many levels. First, I need to apologize for my delay in responding to it, but as most of you are aware, this isn't my full time job, and secondly I wanted to make sure I had my thoughts in order.

I have three problems with this attack---1) it was off-topic of this forum, although the information is public 2) it was essentially anonymous and 3) the attack on topic was unsubstantiated and anonymous.

I feel I need to balance these problems with the "gunslinger" approach on this board, which I think greatly increases the information flow.

Therefore, I propose the following guidelines: (I am calling these guidelines so I am not backed into a corner in the future, as the exact situation is very important)

1) As most of us know one another in one way or another, if a new poster wants to make a controversial statement, it will be necessary to provide some information (i.e. eBay name at the very least) either on the board or to me privately. (Bassin152@aol.com)

2) If a person is going to "attack" on a non-baseball card topic, the information MUST be in the public domain, and you only get one kick at the can. This is for all posters.

I've given these a lot of thought, but please give me your opinion(s).

I will be contacting Dan, and seeing if he wants parts of Jim Freeman's posts that do not meet the above criteria deleted. In the future they will be automatically deleted.

Best Regards,

Elliot

P.S. On a positive note, I don't know what everybody else thought, but what a wonderful exchange of thoughts on Cuban cards on the forum today.

I agree that at this point Dan should have the option of having it deleted, but I don't know that any rules have to be made. If someone behaves this way, just delete his/her post at your own disgression - I think we all trust you to make wise decisions.

Personally, I would like to invite Jerry Freeman to a "discussion" in some dark alley in Rosemont during the Nationals. I absolutely cannot stand people who are intolerant of anything, be it race, gender, sexual preference or anything else. The fact that this weasel gave Dan's ebay handle but did not give his own, or even his real email i.d., tells us a lot about his gutlessness.

I believe in freedom of speech for ALL, regardless of the other person's views, repugnant that they may be. In the context of this board, I think the comments were the actions of the highest form of coward but he may think what he wishes and he has a right to say what he wants. But...

They weren't Baseball Card related so I say delete them if you haven't already. On a chat board with a social or political theme the comments should stay since they are a matter of public record and in in that type of arenas may be relevant - NOT this arena. Let's not make this board so complicated, Ok folks. I don't think new rules are necessary.

I will trust Elliot's judgement regarding him censoring posts.
