Default Torn between getting a 1954 Red Heart Mantle PSA 6 or a 55 Clemente RC PSA 3 (mc)

Title says it all...

Any opinions on my choice?

Depends.

Which of the two players do you like the most?

Are you buying for sheer enjoyment and appreciation, or actually investing?

As some assert, and rightly so, the dreaded PSA qualifier will get you Roberto for a much cheaper price, but when it comes times to sell this Roberto, chances are the qualifier will drag down what you could get for it, whether 5, 10, 20, or 50 years from now.

I won't tell you whom I'd choose in a heartbeat, for that is irrelevant.

Make your decision. If you can, sleep on it. When you get up, are you STILL excited about the card you chose? You better be. Or, don't buy either, and wait for a card that all your collector instincts scream, "GOTTA HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!"

Be at peace with your decision. ----Brian Powell

Unless you are chomping at the bit to spend, save your money and eventually buy a RC in 4. With two grade drops due to the Q, that is more like a 1. Low end RC cards are plentiful, but I'd avoid one with a Q.

Assuming this is a major purchase I'd go for a Clemente in a 2 or 3 with eye appeal that's centered well. If not, I'd pick up both but still would much rather have a nice looking 2 or even a 1 over a 3 with an mc qualifier. Unless it's just the back that is off and the front looks nice.

Can you post pics, so we can see the actual cards you're talking about? You can black out the cert numbers if you are worried about someone swooping in and grabbing them.

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

For me it would depend on whether you already have a good Mantle card. If not, buy Mantle.

Mantle. Can't go wrong with any Mantle, especially from the early 50's.

From the early 50s but released through the 70s and not particularly difficult in decent condition. I’d go Clemente but look for a lower grade without the qualifier.

The Clemente is at the card shop here in town and the Red Heart PSA 6 is on eBay...

I can try and get a pic of the Clemente for clarification.

It's a bigger purchase for me personally and have been wanting to get a nice Mantle for my PC, but then I saw the Clemente RC and was like damn...makes it hard to decide.

Honestly, I gotta go with the Red Heart Mantle. Just a beautiful card and not many out there.

That or a Dan Dee...lol
It's hard to decide sometimes. One at a time I guess.

Thanks for all the input!!

Not many out there? 1,276 in the PSA pop report! 226 unqualified 6's?

While of the 2 players - I would likely have to lean toward Mantle (Even though I am a hardcore Clemente collector! I also have a bunch of cool Mantle stuff in my collection), it would have to be a different card. As mentioned the red heart in fact is relatively common. Between the 2 cards mentioned - I would buy neither - As mentioned by others I would look for the best lower grade - nice eye appeal Clemente I could find every day of the week (between the red heart Mantle and Clemente Rookie) - from the demand side - I suspect Clemente rookies will always be in MUCH higher demand than red heart Mantle's and as a card the Clemente rookie is much more iconic than the red heart Mantle (imo).

All that said - as always - buy what YOU like - because you are the one that needs to be happy with it.

I think Mary MacGregor went to a lot of parties where car keys were put into a bowl.
