Default Who Needs Atlantic City??

When this walked into my shop today.

Photo album of the 1914 Boston Braves along with a stack of scorecards from both Braves and Red Sox games including 3 or 4 that I saw just flipping through with Ruth as the Pitcher. There are many more photos and autographs than I am showing here.

Yes, a local auctioneer gave me the name of the guy who had this, he tried to explain it to me over the phone while I was on vacation. He met me at my shop a few days ago and said he'd like to sell it. I made him an offer, he said he'd do more research and get back to me. he came back in today and sold it to me.

Total mind blowing. Crazy haul . My main focus is collecting HOFer snapshot photos.Really special to see some amazing "candid snapshots" of earlier players. In addition, how up close and very focus the photographs are...very cool!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Here are a couple of the scorecards from some interesting games. "Speaker Day" at Fenway on May 9, 1916 and the June 1, 1916 game with Ruth pitching a 3 hit 1-0 shutout against Walter Johnson.

Default Personal favorite snapshots out of this amazing find

Dan,
I was particularly intrigued by the original snapshots of no-hit pitchers George "Iron" Davis and Thomas L. Hughes (aka "Salida" Tom Hughes) in your collection.

After doing some quick research, I think that there is also a potential tell on when these photos were taken because of the presence of Salida Tom. Former NY Highlander Salida Tom didn't rejoin the 1914 Miracle Braves until the last two weeks of the 1914 regular season. Late in his baseball career he was previously toiling away in the minor leagues prior to a late season call up.
As a result, I would gather that these snapshots were either taken early in the 1914 (unlikely) or late in the season (extremely likely) given the nature of their historic 1914 campaign.

It's too bad that Salida Tom was not one of the players that signed his snapper. His autograph is truly scarce and is one that I have personally looking for to add to my vintage no-hit pitcher autograph collection. In fact, I have only seen one example of his signature on a 1914 Miracle Braves team ball. Certainly a very tough signature for someone who had a death date of 1961. After baseball I have been told that Salida Tom was somewhat of a con man or grafter, perhaps accounting for his signature being so difficult to find. An interesting early baseball figure, for sure...

Thanks for sharing this "Miracle" collection of snapshots!

Dan- Great find. Hate to say it, but the only way it could be better would be if the photog got a few shots of Ruth while he was in Boston. Either way it's a great get & I'm happy that you were able to acquire it. So cool.

I know, right? It seems like the person who put the album together continued going to games for at least two more years as they kept score for games through 2016. Maybe they kept an album for each season and those are still out there somewhere?
