The Calf. Angles defeated the Red Sox 4-3. Nolan Ryan took a No Decision despite going 13 innings striking out 19 and walking 10 batters. He threw 236 pitches, and made his next start 3 days later. The "hard luck" loser for Boston was the one and only Luis Tiant. El Tiante went the distance 14.1 innings, tossing nearly 160 pitches himself, he too made his next start a mere days later.
