Default Jersey Collector seeking help for 1951 photos

Posted By: Giants00

Hi! I have just discovered this wonderful forum. I am a jersey collector, and have been collecting jerseys for a number of years now. I always feel good Karma to be surrounded by such fantastic jerseys.
As a note, there has been a really interesting and useful discussion on authenticators on this site. My experiences are generally very positive, and i have been very happy with the people i have met, and with the jerseys i have been sold. But, I am also a fanatic on authentication and use both photos and i have hired a textile expert who has no vested interest in the hobby to authenticate stuff. We have learned a lot, and i can say that at least my mistakes have been small.
I was wondering if i could seek a favor. I am currently looking for scans/link/photos of the 1951 Giants either during the playoffs, or world series. The books i have all repeat many of the same photos. A number of 1951 jerseys have become available and i am trying to discern if these jerseys were just World Series jerseys, or if they were used during the playoffs. There is little evidence of a patch, but that could be explained if the jerseys were new for the playoffs, and the patch was removed for the world series.
Of course, if any of you have any information on home Giants jerseys from 1951, do not hesitate to drop a line!
Thanks!

Hi. I am a uniform collector too..but I don't think in your league. You sound like you have built up quite an expertise. I think that's great. I save a lot of photos I come across of Jerseys sold in auctions to help me date items I find down the road. Here are a couple of photos that may help. I can say in 1951 the jersey definetly still had the MacGregor GoldSmith tag. It wasn't until 1952/53 that the plain MacGregor tag or in 1955 Tim Mcauliffe tag was introduced.

This is a 1951 Giants Uniform. I don't recall when I downloaded it so unfortunately I can't give you the source to verify it. When I save a picture I save the date and I made a note it was 1951.

This is a 1948 Ott jersey from this months Sotheby's auction.

Thanks Joe K....as in the first picture, all of the auctioned 1951 home jerseys dont have the patch....i am wondering if they are just the WS jerseys, or were they used in the dodger/giant playoff as well.
I agree on the tagging, and all of the auctioned jerseys i have seen are also "set 2, 1951"
Thanks
