How about leaving it up to the ebay buyer to decide if it's real. In other words, if you are foolish and don't have a clue, you're just the guy we're looking for. The seller needs to make the call, not the buyer.

Any chance we can kill these ridiculous posts about fake Wagner’s for less than pocket change. I’m beginning to wonder if anyone here collects cards, or just browses ebay for fake Wagner listings?

I can see it now the Network 54 Vintage Reprint & Scam Artist Discussion Board.

Barry is right, there will always be stupid people looking for a cheap steal. Just like there will always be people looking to take advantage of these stupid people we don’t need to post each and every auction out there. In fact by doing so I think it gives these scumbags undeserved attention.

Am I alone on this????

It does seem that there is a fake Wagner on ebay nearly every day, and after we all have a good laugh, there's not anything left to learn about one more fake. I would guess that there will never be a real Wagner ever listed on ebay.

I, for one, appreciate the alerts to rip-offs on ebay. Although I have collected cards for some time I am new to pre-1930 cards and and glad for any tips to avoid fakes. This particular card even I can easily see is fake but there have been other fakes posted on this site that I would have had no clue about. Thank you.

I have to agree w/ Howard. While most of the threads about fakes have to deal w/ Wagners, some of them are quite helpful. The ones I'm referencing are the ones where Ebay sellers have scammed pictures from someone's website (i.e. the justizzle and T-206 Museum issues) or subtle marks noticed by forum members that we may not all see. While I'm sure we could all do without the obvious fake Wagner threads, there are some that should be posted. Just my opinion...

Zach

I am reluctant to tell anyone what to post about if it concerns pre-wwII baseball cards, including fake Wagners. I also get a little tired of seeing the alerts to the fake T206 Wagners too. I would ask, and not require, that we not post about T206 fake Wagners on ebay, unless there is something extraordinary about the auction. I feel this board is very helpful in alerting folks to other fakes and rip offs, otherwise. I also wish more lurkers would post.....best regards

Howard: If you follow DR Cycleback's advice, you will eliminate most cards which are not authentic. Briefly, his advice includes the fact that it is often more easy to determine the faker than the fake. Specifically, by avoiding potentially high risk sellers, you minimize your exposure.

Check their feedback, their presentation (such as unclear scans), strategy (such as private austions), terms (such as "all sales final"), etc. and you will eliminate 95% or more of the fakes.

Of course it's a fake, but it's refreshing to see these scammers tossed.

I apologize for this thread. I have not been on this forum long enough to know how many times this post has been placed for Honus Wagner fakes. I have been screwed a few times and the treads have been very helpful to me.
I appreciate all your help.
