Pennant help???

I would like to find out what color an old red pennant fades to over time. I'm thinking 1920's. Any help? Thanks, Sam Majors

My guess would be a pinkish hue

A picture is worth a thousand words. Depends on wear, dirt, sun, etc. Generally the older pennants are less likely to significantly fade due to much thicker felt and heavier ink / dyes. When they fade they often go pinker as the previous post stated. The are however more likely to have more significant damage from bugs, etc. Jason

Very few of my red pennants have actually faded. Close to none, as a matter of fact. Rather, the red ones tend to develop a blackish patina over time. Perhaps this is just the accumulation of dust/dirt/grime over the years. See pictured example below, to better visualize this phenomenon. It is most common with older red felt pennants.

As for fading, blue felt seems to have been the worst color, by far. The blue felt typically fades to grey. Very important to keep these blue ones away from direct sunlight. See Yankees Pennant below, as an example. Also see difference between the front and back of early ChiSox Pennant...

I always liked that Yankees pennant. I passed on one at the national a few year ago because he wanted me to buy the Cards one too. I should have just bought it. It was nice. Nice Sox pennant too
