Default 2016 REA Catalog is here!

I received my catalog today in California. Curious to see if anyone else received theirs already.

Got mine in Canada. Other than REA the catalogue usually comes after the auction is over.

So does the value of Peltys now go way down with this many added to the market?

I think it goes down a little now that folks know that they are there. By the same token, unless the purchaser of this lot decides to break up the lot, the scarcity will still be higher than other cards. I find it pretty impressive that someone could accumulate that many of one card without being suspicious.

How in the world did that Ginger Beaumont T206 get a grade of 9? And Lena Blackburn EPDG get an 8? Unbelievable.....

I agree, that EPDG Blackburne looks worse than many 6s. No way if you or I crack that out of that holder and send it to PSA, it comes back an 8 again.

Also

how is this a PSA 7? isnt that staining and a wrinkle at the top

http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...e?itemid=39478

and this a PSA 6?

http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...e?itemid=39476

nice cards, but grading of t206s does not seem very consistent by PSA. The Walter Johnson PSA 7 is a great card, but seems more like a 6.

You are absolutely right. The Rucker PSA 7 Pied 42 has a very noticable crease or wrinkle at the top of the card. I'm just wondering if all these cards belong to the same owner??? Just saying, these cards are way off....

I know if I win this lot I will skin all the cards and sell the end product as Pelts.

Well, now I have now spent the last 3 hours perusing the REA catalogue, and now am feeling a bit faint and think I need to lie down. If this is Rob's final REA auction before he rides off into the sunset towards whatever, then I think
it will be a blockbuster. Wow! John

I have never heard of a 7 with a wrinkle before. Does any one know if it is possible for a wrinkle to re-appear after its been removed? Perhaps that is what happened in this case.

yup...it is possible...a good indication said card may have been tampered with at some point.

A scary thought for those with high grade big money cards if true. I know there are those who think a lot of the vintage 8s 9s and 10s had a little help along the way. I would hate to spend 5 or 6 figures on a great looking card only to find a wrinkle or stain suddenly appear down the road. I wonder if the psa or sgc guarantee would apply in such a case.

Pete- you never cease to amaze me. Even with all of the past sales results, you want to go on and on about SGC, and rag PSA...Why? Even PSA can make grading mistakes, but the one good thing, they are at least in PSA holders. Nothing like selling PSA 7 T206 commons for $700-750, and settling for selling SGC 84 T206 commons for $400-450. What exactly is it? Did Joe O. beat you up at school??

I've seen 8s with noticeable wrinkles. I doubt they were missed, more likely they reappeared.

Kevin...go suck an egg!

Why don't I like PSA?

Because historically they overgrade cards.

Why else?

Because they've been implicated with fraud and sketchy behavior in the hobby.

Why else? Because they started their venture knowingly overgrading an altered card that is the emblem of the hobby.

I don't give a f$ck about resale...I am a collector first and foremost.

Over grade cards? Are you actually saying that with a straight face? Have you seen the recent SGC graded T206s that have been flooding the market in the last several months?

Pete- 90% or better of my SGC graded T206s were from many years ago, and for the most part, they are solid cards for the grade given. There was a time when they were close with PSA, both in grade evaluations and prices realized. All I'm saying is that ship has long since sailed. Hell, I remember when GAI came out, and some of their prices were exceeding PSA, look at them now...

I hate PSA's inconsistency as much as anybody, but that Rucker with the crease isn't a crease it all -- it's a scratch in the plastic that carries into the frame above the card.

Extremely close inspection by REA reveals a crease in the upper right corner, more easily visible from the reverse, which would cause us to grade this card at a lower level than PSA, but whatever its grade, it is undeniably a beautiful and extremely crisp card.

The perils of buying the grade without reading the description. Yeesh.

In this respect, I have seen way more PSA 5+ cards with wrinkles and creases than SGC 60+. The criticism of SGC from the PSA crowd tends to be around centering and corner wear. But, I have never seen an SGC 60+ with a wrinkle or a crease. And that is why I feel more comfortable buying high grade T206 cards online in SGC holders. In a way, SGC assumes you can see the cornerwear and centering yourself. They are much better at telling you about the hidden flaws.

For some reason, I didn't receive a catalog this year. I went through the lots online. I keep going back to the Lionel Carter 33 Delong set. The idea of having the first set that he collected all together in his holders is pretty awesome and I am thinking of taking a run at it. Did the catalog have any price estimates?

Finally got my catalog. The suspense was killing me. So much great stuff in there. Ridiculous.

Got mine last night. While still in a plastic wrapping the back cover had a corner torn off and missing. I am glad that catalog came to me and not someone that collects catalogs. Most of my catalogs get well worn since my 4 toddlers/young children love looking through these catalogs.

Estimate is $4,000 (currently $3,750).
