Default 1927 W560s - Love em or hate em?

When I began collecting my immediate reaction was that there cards were just ugly as hell and kind of absurd. But for some reason they have really grown on my over the years. I sort of imagine a lot of people dislike them. Are there W560 fans out there? I think they are just strange enough to be interesting.

It's not the most eye appealing set as you've said. However, I've enjoyed trying to collect the different color tints, some of which can be really difficult to find.

(btw, on a side note, one of my small pet peeves about SGC holders. You notice that for the cards in the PSA holders, they all pretty much line up. However, in the SGC holders, there's no consistency on how the insert centers the card in the holder. Somewhat bothers the OCD part of me.)

Gary - you are killing me with that line up of Gehrigs. Wow. Beautiful. If they are ever on the sale block . . . .

Here's my one Gehrig. Matches up well to your first one.

PS My OCD says all the ones in the PSA holders are misalligned and tilting downwards.

Default W560

I have never really liked W560 cards, but dangit if I don't have some. I wouldn't want to play cards with a deck that looked like the ones I have.

I have had the Walter Johnson first in high SGC, then in PSA-9, but sold both to make room for Walters that I liked more.

The 560s came out the year my Mother was born and this issue was from Walter's last year, so that makes them kind of cool.

Not a bad set, but mostly because (IMO) there are so few quality sets from the 1920's.

Brokleman current auction has an uncut sheet. Seems to be in pretty good shape. No Gehrig or Ruth though.

Thanks! I definitely see where you are coming from where the card floats in the PSA holder, so it can tilt.

I think a lot of vintage collectors have a few just because (one of a million different reasons)....

My sentiments exactly as I picked up my first this week.

Never really liked them, but have eyed the Gehrig for a while since it's affordable, and just about any early Gerhig seems worth owning. This will likely remain my one and only.

I've never been a big fan of these aesthetically speaking but they do have have some early cards of key players.
