Default Luther "Dummy" Taylor Day @ KC Royals-

Posted By: Danny

Greetings-

It is my very pleasure to share this to my people here in the forum. I can’t imagine living without this forum where we share our love and understanding in cards. As you know, I’m Deaf and I’m a Deaf Sports Collector. I have huge collection on William “Dummy” Hoy, Luther “Dummy Taylor, and players who appeared professional games.

I’m proud to say, I’m co-chairperson for Luther “Dummy” Taylor Day @ Kansas City Royals, Kaufman Stadium on June 30, 2007. Kansas City Royals will be honoring their hometown Hero. There will be a Taylor Expo at the Stadium parking lot. The ceremony honoring Taylor will be at 6:10pm and the first pitch would happen at 7:05pm. The game will be between Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. Kansas City Royals will also have Taylor Baseball Card Promotional give away to first 10,000 fans.

It is great to see that Luther Haden "Dummy" Taylor is being recognized by Kansas City Royals. For more information- contact me at MrGabel@mac.com or check out the website-- http://www.kefdcc.org/events.html

Taylor attended the Kansas School for the Deaf from 1884 to 1895. He returned to his alma mater after retiring from his baseball career to become the Supervisor/Athletic Director for KSD from 1915 to 1923 before moving to Iowa School for the Deaf, Council Bluffs then to Illinois School for the Deaf, Jacksonville in 1933. He remained in Jacksonville until his death in 1958.

Taylor was enshrined to American Athletic Association for the Deaf (today, its called USADF) in 1952. Kansas School for the Deaf also honored Taylor by naming their Gymnasium- Taylor Gymnasium. In 2006, Taylor was honored by Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and in 2007, he was inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2000, Author Daryl Brock wrote a baseball fiction book called Havana Heat focusing on Dummy Taylor.

Way to go Danny! I'm sitting here watching my KC Royals on TV as I read this. Hopefully I can get the family out to that game.
