Default Circa 1880s Baseball team picture and frame

There are still good reasons to frequent ebay. Just got this in the mail and the picture is even more clear than the picture on ebay. Love the top-hat and mascot...not to mention the catchers mask. And the frame is about 3" deep, multi-layered and very cool. Another happy ebayer ...

Default Amazing Pickup!

Incredible grab at an incredible price.

I wonder if there is some identifying info about the team inside the frame.

I had time to mess with this and after taking the photo out of the neat frame it looks like it has a Stallings stamp on back (enlarged portion below). A quick search says Stallings was a noted photography in at least the early 1880s.....There is fancy gold guild around the outside too.

Looks like you've identified the team from the photographer stamp. It is probably a town team from Grinnell, as shown by the "G" on the shirts.

Good point Jay. Time to do a bit more research. Another thing I thought pretty cool was the miniature ring bat the mascot is holding. The photo is a bit sharper in the scan than the picture was on ebay.
