Default Lets see some N172 Old Judge ))

Just got back my first really detailed N172 and I just cant take my eyes off it and how awesome it looks (granted had to pay about 3 times the last sale but glad i did), just an amazing set when you think how old it is and yet had over 2500 different pictures in it.

Easy Thread lets see some more, here are my 3 recent picups-
all the laying down ones crack me up!

Though the cap was too cool on this one

Wow this one blew me away!

Scott, those OJs are amazing! The Fields was worth the money IMO. Virginia (biggrandma) had some great OJs. Pretty much all of them had impossibly incredible photo quality for a single group of cards. I have no idea how they all developed so well, and stayed that way so long. They were an original collection. I have a couple of them.

I am out of town right now, but I will post some stuff next week.

I'm partial to the one that shares my name, despite no family tree relation.

Yah, it's kind of like the Washington Nationals in the land of Oz. I wish I owned it, but it is in the Wharton-Tigar collection at the British Museum.

That is one of the better two player cards for sure. Jay and I owe special thanks to Charles Hausberg for sharing the images Jay posted. The Edward Wharton-Tigar collection has over 20 cards we could have used images for in the book. An amazing collection indeed! I really like the McCormick portrait.

Jay and Joe G., wondered why this pose is not in the book. You have an N173 in it's place. It can't be scarce because I have one

Joe---we tried to show each team that the player had a card from in the pose images. The image that you are referring to showed Weidman with a NY Giants card.

Default I'll bite, can't let this fall off the front page just yet . . .

Some very nice cards posted. I'll second the comment on the photo quality of the cards from Virginia (biggrandmama). I was fortunate to pick up a couple of them. Hard to improve on the Fields posted by Scott.

One of my favorite players, Charles "Lady" Baldwin. Now if I could only find his 5th pose I'd have a nice sequence of his full pitching motion

This is a set I wish I paid more attention to as a kid, because as an adult they really are amazing! To think that some collectors have hundreds and or thousands upon thousands of these cards in collections is not only humbling but mind blowing as well. Here are my lone 13 examples. Great cards everyone!

Jim B great cards!

Which city is featured the most across the set? I know there were different teams, but seems like chicago might have the most...?

Great cards everyone!

Thanks, Jay. It has been consigned to Bill Goodwin. As you know, Bill is top notch, and he has done a terrific job marketing the card. I always enjoy working with him.

Some amazing cards. Nothing like a dark image photographic card from Goodwin & Co. I love Jim's Gaffney and what a "meager" collection of 13 John.

John,

You will have first crack at it, I promise. But the pooch is hypo-allergenic, so we are co-existing quite well at the moment.

Great cards everyone!

Rob
NY Giants have more poses and are typically not very difficult. In a large random sample of 1886-1890 Old Judge cards, the NL New York Giants would be more commonly encountered than any other team.

In some ways, I'm lucky to be a Detroit collector as opposed to New York. The 1887 total pose count would raise from Detroit's 28 to New York's 111 (NY averages ~8 poses per player in 1887)!
