Default CJs on ebay - real or fake?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

The seller has good feedback, but the normal warning signs of "old attic find, buy as is-is" and doesn't know the exact date etc. The Grover is over $100 now, so someone thinks its real!

Most things look good to me, just that usually if you see a 1914 CJ with this much wear, it'll also have some rips/tears cuz they are so fragile. And is it common for the "Cracker Jack" letter at the top to go into the white border? None of my small collection of 25 or so have the lettering that high - they all stop before the border.

Thanks!
Rob

It's funny, I was looking at this card last night and I wondered if it was real or not. Perfect feedback or not, if a card says as-is, chances are it is fake. Plus, the left border looks strange.

Default Griffith

Take a look at Griffith. His face looks yellow and faded but the borders are white. I would think a card would age uniformly.

They're all fake. But at least the seller added to his descriptions this morning that they likely are fake (without saying so with 100% certainty - which we can do!)....

I thought the eBay police had a rule that if you didn't know if the item was real or not, you had to list it as a reprint or reproduction?

Technically they do, but unless people report the listing it will never be removed.

They look unquestionably fake to me too. In several of the cards the "Cracker Jack" lettering up top extends past the red border into the whitish portion of the card. This does not happen in the real McCoy.

Also, it is odd that all of the cards being sold seem to have EXACTLY the same wear pattern, almost to a tee. Not to mention the seller going out of his way to say, basically, buyer beware with his wording of his ad.

If anyone does have any real 1914 CJ's that they are looking to sell, I would be interested, as I am (slowly) trying to put together a set. I am about 50% of the way there.

Default Reported the item

After seeing this thread, I reported the item. I have a real problem with the seller tagging this as "ORIGINAL" and then hiding behind the following statements:
"what you see is what you get"
buying "as is".
"bid at your own risk"
and my favorite:
And that any buyers should assume all responsibility of knowing what exactly they are buying!
Shouldn't the seller assume all responsibility of knowing exactly what he/she is selling?
