Default 1954 Hank Aaron Value Question

Hi all, a quick question I am hoping someone can help with. I am looking to acquire a nicely centered BVG 1.5 Aaron RC with good eye appeal. I don't currently have VCP, but also it varies dependent on the actual card. Without giving an actual scan, can anyone give me a solid guesstimate of what a fair price for a nicely centered BVG 1.5 would be?? Pardo my ignorance, but this is a big purchase for me and I am still very new to the vintage world. Thanks in advance!

My advice is:
1. Dont buy anthing vintage slabbed by BVG
2. Buy a nicely centered card

On ebay you can do an advanced search and see what prices have gone for for sold items. That will give you a good idea of the range of prices.

Just search 1954 Hank Aaron 1.5 and click on the sold listings box in the left hand column. A new tip I recently learned which eliminates the Advanced Search!

I disagree with #1.

True, BVG will always sell for less than PSA and SGC as they aren't the best at grading vintage. That said, I still consider BVG one of the top 3 graders on the market. Even early GAI slabs are perfectly fine (at the right price).

Bottom line, if you really like the card, then go for it.

At a 1.5 Fair grade, the main thing a BVG slab would tell me is that the card is Authentic and in low grade. Likely to not be trimmed, but all TPGs have gotten some wrong in the past. If it was an 8 in a BVG slab I would worry that it wouldn't cross to a PSA grade, but at a 1.5, I would see that as a positive that it was graded.

Not to turn this into another Battlefield thread, but it still boggles the mind she continues to get away with this!!

The last line is 100% correct. Always buy the card and not the holder. Buy a card you love. But with all the options today, getting stuck on the idea of a particular grading company or exact grade is not wise. Maybe you find a psa 2 you love. Shell out the extra $200. Or an sgc 20. Whatever you do, just buy a nice card. I am just saying, i have crossed over bvg quite a few times and they never cross at the bvg grade and are sometimes deemed trimmed (beckett missed it).
