Default What is this?

Many years ago I traveled to St. Louis for the estate auction of a deceased baseball card collector. In between the pages of one of the card albums I won was this item. I've never really done any research on it, but I believe it is a cardboard megaphone, maybe handed out at the ballpark? It is in mint unused condition, completely flat and never opened up. What I would be most interested in finding out is the year when it was made. Anyone ever seen anything like this before?

I once had one of these. The person who gave it to me said it was a popcorn holder and then you could bust out or detach the bottom cardboard pieces and it became a megaphone. Mine was from the 1970's.

That fine item held popcorn.

The bottom had 2 tabs that closed the hole so that popcorn didn't fall out (very much).

Popcorn was sold in these megaphones in the mid 60s and on to about 1970 at St. Louis.

My recollection, as a kid, is that the popcorn was 50 cents. The popcorn was salty as could be, I guess so that more watered down Coke could be sold. I recall chomping the popcorn, then putting that megaphone to my mouth, and shouting my heart out. The remnants of salt down at the bottom would burn the lips. I vividly recall that.

The Reds also sold their popcorn in these types of megaphones/containers in the mid-70s at Riverfront. And Frank is right: The remaining salt at the bottom of the container seemed strong enough to bore through the door of a bank safe.

Appreciate all the responses. Didn't realize it could be a popcorn holder also.

If you look inside the display case you will see both a Red Sox and Yankees Megaphone/popcorn holder. My local minor league club still uses this idea as I got one from them at a game last year.

I had one (the holder/megaphone not popcorn... thumbtacked to my wall as a kid.

I got it at a Cardinal game in the late 70's.

They are on Ebay on occasion.
