Default Interesting Fact about 1963 Fleer

I wanted to pass along some information I found out about the 1963 Fleer's and see if anyone else has had a similar experience. Sometime in the 1980's a fellow in my hometown (in Missouri) came up with a group of beautiful 1963 Fleers. He had small stacks of several of the stars all in a small envelope. I asked where he had gotten them. He said a guy that used to be part of the Little League in town had been given these cards by the company to hand out to the little league players during the season and these were left over. I remember trading for a Koufax and Gibson, but I don't recall which others. But I do remember it was only the "Stars" and he had multiples of each. Anyone else ever hear of this program?

Default Fleer

David---had not heard that but do know that Topps Rookie Banquet programs for 1959 and 1960 indicated Topps gave out cards and ballots to boys clubs. boy scouts and cub scout groups for their Topps Rookie Banquet awards that the resulted in those winning the ballots being pictured on the Topps Rookie award winners card the following year ( 60 and 61). I think the program continued through at least 1963

That's interesting about the Topps banquet Al. I knew Topps gave away those presentation sets you see at auction once in awhile. I was surprised Fleer gave away cards like that. I guess they were trying to drum up some interest in the set. Too bad the set got cut short. One funny thing about acquiring those cards is I was able to trade some 1969 Topps with a kids name written across the front in ink for these new looking 1963 Fleers. The guy I was trading with didn't care, he just needed those players for his set.
