It generally is.

Saw this available for an amazing price. I asked for more scans and the history of the card. Just wanted to get some opinions. PSA # checks out, #07052971.

Well this isn't very promising. Here's the response...

"I don't know too much about it. It was bought in a estate auction and was in the safe"

Also found this...

Same pictures and everything. With a lower asking price. Something seems fishy.

Good advice. I will have to remember that myself.

The entire bottom border is frosted. I would stay away.

Its a fake that popped up a couple years back. they are often seen in PSA slabs now on craigslist. The easiest way to tell in a small pic like this is the bat in the Yankee logo is white in middle while the authentic cards the bat is a solid black color. Whoever made it actually redesigned it with a better quality Yankee Logo

Wow, thanks for all the feedback, guys. This was indeed on Craigslist and he was asking $3K cash. So obviously something sketchy is going on. The bat on the logo is a dead give away. I'm not incredibly experienced on spotting counterfeits, so I wanted to turn to you guys for help. One day I'd love to add this iconic card to my collection, but it's a little scary that there are so many fakes out there. He ended up sending me some more "high resolution" scans. I'll just throw them in for s&g.

Buy from a legit dealer, not from a back-alley dude on Craigslist, and you won't be burned with a fake.

Default Fake Fake Fake

The flip is a knock-off. The font doesn't match any that PSA has used. Mantle's skin color is also too "warm" in the shadow areas.

Agreed, on this kind of card buy from an established dealer. You can get a decent deal but this card will not be a steal. If it is a steal then you are going to be saddened at the end of the day.
