Anyone have any knowledge of these rare 'gumless cards'? Is there a price realized for the complete baseball set? With red ink variations?

Here is Lou Brock. I never heard of nor have seen the red ink ones.

I doubt if anyone owns a compete set of these, which is over 300 cards with several of the cards updated and also includes football players, basketball players, and golfers, but I did buy a partial set which included nearly every card between 1 and 160 about 5 or so years ago for around $1,200. Every card had tape or tape residue on the corners. I bought it from a card dealer in the Dayton, Ohio area on eBay. The only reason I bought the partial set was to get the Cubs that I needed and then my plan was to sell the rest on eBay to hopefully break even. I ended up in the hole minus $300-$400 because I was disappointed in what most of the cards went for, although some went for strong prices, Clemente, Aaron, Mazeroski, Bench. I don't regret it because I would still be looking for Santo, Beckert, Kessinger, Callison, Pepitone, Pappas, Hundley, Regan to this day. I still have about forty common players that I couldn't sell for even a dollar on eBay. The red colored Bench and Perez were printed side by side on the same day, the ones that I had were still together and I sold it that way on eBay. I was disappointed what it went for, something like $50-$60. They were the only ones printed that way, it was to commemerate the two Reds being named to the 1970 All Star game.

First time I have seen the red variation too... so only Perez and Bench are in red ink ?

Thanks Larry, im trying to get an idea of what the market value is on these... And yes, crab, i think perez and bench are the only known red ink versions, commemorating the all star game in riverfront that year. I havent seen any auction endings for any of these. They seem rare. So rare that they may not be very 'collectible' per se.

This is one of those issues that you probably just need to find the right buyer at the right time. They aren't cards in the true sense and that turns off a lot of collectors. I love that kind of stuff personally, the more obscure, the better, but then it is nearly impossible to find that way.

I will have to check when I get home. I know that Don Sutton and Wes Parker sold (the guy that bought the Parker told me that he had been looking for it for years), but I may still have Billy Grabarkewitz, Claude Osteen, Tom Haller, and Manny Mota.

Like some others on here I really enjoy the odd-ball type items and newspaper cutouts a some of my favorites. Personally though I'm a single player collector so I'm pretty much interested in only one player, but if the condition is nice I know I'd love to pick up items like the '70 Dayton Daily News.

Oh, if you happen to have a Brooksie available that's nice I'd love to have another one...

They are on eBay regularly. They don't sell well. I would want an Aaron for my collection.

You are right that the ones on eBay never sell and just sit there, but if someone was to put up these cards from the set on eBay starting at .99 cents, Lew Alcindor, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Lee Trevino, Pete Rose, Carl Yastrzemski, Johnny Bench, Reggie Jackson, Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Fran Tarkenton, Wilt Chamberlain, Ron Santo, George Blanda, Dick Butkus, Bob Lilly, Jerry West, they would get a lot of interest.

True. I'd pay for some of them, just not the crazy prices listed on the eBay museum.
