I just read that Ed Abbaticchio is considered the first Italian major leaguer. Let's see his and other Italian ballplayer's pre-war cards.
Thanks,
John

A little Tolstoi wet sheet transfer going on. If you look at this one though a loupe it has "Factory No.30 2 Dist. N.Y." printed just under his name. Picked this up about a year ago at the Vet's show in Columbus,Oh.

With a great sounding name, and very "rythmical" ....Van Lingle Mungo....I think he is Italian ?

And, don't forget, there is a BB song named after him.......

I was wondering about the timing of this thread too Steve.

1/8th of me is very confused about being upstaged by a thread about guineas on St Patricks Day
1/4th of me is insulted I just said that

In addition to being the first Italian American baseball player, Batty was also a member of one of the first professional football teams in the late 1890s becoming the first dual pro-football/baseball players.

I have always liked Ed. One of the more underrated early American professional athletes.

What was the ethnicity of Sandy Nava (1882-1886)? I had heard hat he was Italian, however, but to be honest he looks Hispanic in the pictures I have seen of him.
