Default Show your BASEBALL CAP (ball head) BANKS

A recent addition to the September Pickups thread got me thinking about these little guys....

The label on the bottom says this bank is a product of Wyatt, Dunagan and Williams. Jack Wyatt was an Ad Exec, TV Host and, later, a priest.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Wyatt

WDW never produced novelty items; I guess they just were the middlemen between their clients and the Japanese company who made these banks. A quick Google search also turned up WDW banks of Santa Claus and a Boston Bruins hockey skate. How many teams were represented? Did they come in "team" colors or were they always painted black, red and white? Mine came from a guy who found it while doing either remodel or demo work on a bank in L.A. I wonder if that bank had an assortment of teams. The bank is marked 1969 and the cap logo would be correct from 1958-72.

Does anyone actually remember seeing these guys at their brick and mortar bank branch?

Wow Rob! That is fantastic and quick detective work. There were definately red and blue examples which would about cover it for the 60s. I've never seen your San Fran example it's a beauty!

Here is my contribution and the only example of the Cubs I've seen.

Cool, Mike! I couldn't tell from the other pic if your Cubs example had a blue or black hat.

Mine is in great shape. The paint chips very easily.

There are more royal blue banks of the Pilots, Burgundy Phillies, bright red Reds and Nats.

I think these are neat little items. I've seen a mint Orioles one too. I have this Wichita Aeros one that came from a bank in Wichita of course .

Yep Rob it's like yours. Has the two stickers on the bottom too. Got lucky and was at the right place at the right time. Never seen one before or since. The Aeros didn't start until 1970, but this might have been made as a promotion in 1969. Who knows? There's a White Sox on eBay we can add to the list also.

Hi-

I found a Tigers one mint in box at Brimfield a few years ago. If I remember correctly, I paid 10.00. I know I sold it, but I do not remember to whom or for how much (but it was definitely more than 10.00).

Not mine, but The Seattle PILOTS Version is beautifully executed.

^^^^ Love it! I don't what just grab pictures from the internet, but a Google image search showed me a Phillies example that ITPC auctioned awhile back. The base didn't have a bank name; it simply said Philadelphia Phillies. I wonder if it came from a souvenir stand or from a bank.

I will need to add a Tigers example at some point. This is a fairly common bank in my experience

It looks like the stitching on the bill of this piece is more pronounced than the other examples

Found these. The Yankees example shown doesn't state a bank name either. I'll bet these could be purchased at stadiums.

I saw another with a base STICKER, rather than paint.

71buc - you got one of these?

I have come across two with the mustard yellow and black cap. I bid them up to $40 both times and was the under bidder. I don't think they are very attractive so I've never been overly disappointed.

The most common Phillies version I see is a bank giveaway with a 1960's logo. There's also a version that has the logo that was adopted in 1970.

I agree with 71buc that they aren't very pretty and I've held back trying to buy one.

Default Orioles

I guess I'll have to start digging. I know I have an Orioles one somewhere. Probably not minty like some of your guys, but not bad. I think mine just lists "Baltimore Orioles", but we'll see.

Also, I picked one up years and years ago (cheap) and it doesn't have the eyes painted. At this point I can't remember if it has a logo either. Maybe the dig will unearth that one as well...

Clint,

It has a few chips here and there, but not bad shape overall. Would like to pick up a mint example if I ever see one become available. I typically don't search for this type item so I may miss it if the cap back does happen to show up. If you ever run into a MT or even nice O's one please let me know.

The first I've seen like this. Instead of a coin slot, it has 6 holes for pens or pencils.

Not a Baseball Cap bank so I hope I'm not intruding on this thread. I picked this up a few years ago and this is the only baseball related bank I have in my collection and thought this seemed like an appropriate thread to post a picture of it.

Very cool! I also love seeing vintage pictures of “hoards” of the stuff you can barely find any more.

Default Astros bank

Added the Astros bank to go with my "Giants fan who lives in Houston and is OK with the Astros" theme. As you can see, it says "Astrodome" on it, making me think that it might have been sold at the stadium. The material is also slightly different than the Giants bank. The Giants bank is thicker and heavier and more glossy.

I'd be interested in picking up an A's example if anyone has one.
