Default Find the HOF'er

Here's a good example of a photo with someone who looks like a HOF'er, but it isn't the same guy. I've seen this photo come up twice, and both times I did a double-take. Can you spot the doppleganger?

I think the player in the top row far right looks something like Chick Hafey.

That's not who I was thinking of, but I can see that. Jawbone is wrong, though.

The tall guy in the back row to the left somewhat looks like a young Ted Williams....

Okay, maybe I'm blind. No, it was someone different - the guy I'm thinking about immediately stuck out like a sore thumb. If not for one strong identifying feature on the guy's face, I would have purchased the photo immediately.

This turned out, unexpectedly, better than I thought. I thought the guy in the second row looked like George Sisler - so much so that I almost bought the item without even verifying.

What's even more amazing (to me) is that I'm the only one who thought so!

Totally see it now that you point it out.
Also, Danny MacFayden toward the upper right.

None of this is surprising. This is the famous West Academy Facial Imitators BBC.

The ears and the cleft chin are the most visible differences.

Also, if both were to smile, you'd probably see some glaring differences. George's "grill" wasn't exactly made for Hollywood, as I'm guessing dentistry wasn't as advanced back then.

It's okay Scott, I sometimes buy real photo postcards of small town Nebraska teams in the hopes that Grover Cleveland Alexander is in them. They usually go fairly cheap so I never ask for better scans or closeups simply because I'd like the card anyway....the last one I bought was a Marquette, Nebraska town team which is close to St Paul where GCA grew up and was known to be rented out by other towns for big games.

I know it's not him, but from the sellers picture I thought I had a sure winner until I got it in hand.

the fella looks enough like alexander that I would've taken the leap and bought it. I think those unusual noses are pretty close---but not those chins!
all the best,

Scott, thank you for presenting the photo this way (as a quiz). It made for some very entertaining reading, and a good example for the several folks lately who have insisted on sticking to their initial mis-identification of players in photos.

(And that's not me saying I'm better than anyone who made guesses. There's a reason I didn't post a response until after the reveal, and that's because I'm terrible with blind ID's in the first place, and would only have made a fool of myself )

Wow - I totally see the Hornsby resemblance.

Maybe I should buy this photo - one of us has to be right.
