Default Latest Nice 52 Mick - Where Does This One Go?

Just passed Saturn, rounding the rings, next stop...a neighboring galaxy?

PSA 6 1952 Topps Mantle

After this auction we'll have recent sales of nice examples in these ranges...

8s - 300-400k (various sales)
7s - 227k (Heritage)
6s - ? (currently 80k @ Goodwin)
5s - 57k (Heritage)
3s - 25k (eBay)

So playing a little "guess the check" at a restaurant, I'm gonna say 100k all in as it hits the eye way better than a 6. There's no tilt, the L/R is money, and the color of the blue background looks deep and solid.

There was a very nice 3 that sold for around 25k a few months ago you can check on Ebay completed listings.

To clarify, I said "nice" examples. I am talking about "above average" examples here, which command significant premiums over their average looking, or standard, counterparts. If and when the next three that looks exactly the same or better as that one surfaces, I'll bet it doesn't sell for less than 25k. That is if another 3 even looks that nice; I know the owner can sell it right now for 30k to many fellow collectors who hesitated initially, then instantly regretted not hitting the BIN at 25k after it was gone to someone else.

perhaps but there are several CURRENT listings of 3s for 18,000 that sit week after week and one is 707s...which we know how they charge....if anyone has a 3 in their personal collection, its not likely they can expect 25k for their card when cards are sitting for 18k week after week based on one lone sale of an extreme example....didn't see the part about 'nice' example....that could be true but still always a gamble to find someone to buy the card not the holder when they will be later selling the holder not the card in the future on a high dollar card......basically a 'nice' example 3 could easily go for 20k which is a large premium compared to bad 3s...still far away from 25k..etc..

Just took a look at the two 3s referenced on eBay. Of course it's all personal, but a collector seeking an example with rare eye appeal and centering for the grade would likely consider those two examples average to low-end, at least from a centering perspective. Neither example would attract the type of picky buyer willing to pay a big premium for an above average example in the grade.

Even though those two cards say "3" on their holders and the one that went for 25k also says "3," the 25k PSA 3 was a very, very different card-- hence why our fellow board member happily paid what he did for it. Apples and elephants, IMO. Looking at them together, I can see why one flew off the shelf at 24k, so to speak-- a waterfront property, to borrow that great phrase-- while the other two sit on the shelf at their offered prices.

This 6, which is pretty damn nice although not quite in the Goodwin league, has been sitting at 60K forever.

The color on that one is fantastic and bold, but man that tilt would really bug me, to look at every day. I'm the type who'd pay for the Goodwin but pass on that other 6 due just to the tilt situation.

It appears the " tilt " is from the card being tilted inside the holder. Looks noticeable at the top and bottom portion of the card. But I wear glasses and take medication, so I may not be the best judge.

i been watching the low-end and wow the prices have jumped.
A 2.5 sold for 13,332.00, and another had a BIN/BO for 21,500.00
A few 2's: BIN/BO 15,900.07, BIN/BO 15,100, Deans 16,370, and one with bids at 8100.
As for 1's, theres a stained one with a BIN/BO 10,300.00

Have 1's really hit the 10k mark?? And 2's fetching near 15K??

right one 3 out of the all the other 3s....and one of a kind 3 basically...that 3 would outsell some 4s if someone is buying the card not the holder ...would make it a waterfront End lot or something more than just waterfront..there have been super super centered trimmed cards that can go for 15k.......basically just 1 3 touching 25k out of all the other 3s...its not like we are playing in the 25k range for people with 3's in their personal collection....those 3s on ebay can probably be had for 15k maybe a tick less....only a one of a kind 3 right now basically has gone for 25k.....who knows in a year or so prices can go up ..but just saying right now.

the other issue is the PSA 3 sold for buy it now...had it gone to auction there is the possibility that the card could of been had for less....cant really compare buy it nows to open auction results

as we all know mantles went up years ago and went back down...what must come up.......

the waterfront properties are really the nice. ...its the card AND the condition..i would take my chances with the higher graded cards..thats why we keep seeing higher and higher prices on the higher grade cards....... even when the housing market crashed the waterfront properties were stronger than ever
