Default Peeling in 1963 Post Cereal Baseball Cards?

I am sort of a newbie to Net54 Baseball Card forums, but I have an issue that I hope somebody can shed some light upon.

I am putting together the 1963 Post Cereal Baseball card set and have been doing fine buying lots on eBay. I have about 120 of the 200 cards so far.

I recently purchased a lot where 3-4 of the cards seemed to have the front starting to peel off like a glued piece of paper that was coming unglued. I have not seen this before with 1963 Post cards and was wondering if others had seen it. Could it be counterfeiting? The weird part was that all the players were commons, so I'm not sure why anybody would counterfeit their cards because it would not be profitable. Maybe some cereal box plants had different production methods.

I have attached a picture of the peeling on card #186 (Roman Mejias)

Any observations would be appreciated. If this is just normal wear for these types of cards that is fine too.

BTW, this has nothing to do with Post vs. Jello issues in 1963. All the cards I have are Post.

Thanks for any help!

That's all it is -- "a piece of paper coming unglued" -- because that's all they are, thin paper glued to thin cardboard.
Exposure to moisture -- possibly even just prolonged high humidity -- or conversely, excessive heat and dryness,
can have the effect of weakening the glue. Such is our experience, anyhow...

Thanks Butch7999. That does make some sense. I suspect that the card is authentic because under magnification, I can't find any flaws or tells versus other 1963 Post cards.

Other Post cards though look as if they are printed directly on the cardboard. My experience is that vintage cards don't have their surfaces peel off so cleanly but rather flake off or the cardboard separates into layers. These are clean peels. Go figure.

Thanks for the help!

Vince
