For me, it's the 1968 American Oil Willie Mays Left Side. There are three graded by PSA, just have never seen one.

You had me excited there for a minute...
Those are actually all "right side"
Looking for a "left side," which I've heard may have Mantle on the right side? This is based on the PSA American Oil Set Listing. If it's anything like the Mantle "left side" card, it has Mays in action vs a portrait.

Oops my bad! Sorry about that. Don't collect the set. Thought it was just the full panel with both sides you were looking for.

1968 Atlantic Oil
AL 3 Freehan
AL 4 Davis
AL 7 McCraw
AL 8 Etchebarren
NL 2 Agee
NL 5 Banks
NL 6 Fairly
NL 7 Swoboda match w/#8 win $5
NL 8 Williams

These are the prize-winners. In decades of collecting I have seen only one prize winner, a Claude Osteen.

I saw a Ruth on eBay a few months ago and received confirmation from a hobby buddy that the Mantle exists. I have yet to see a picture of the Mantle and am still, occasionally, working on trying to acquire that one (offered an insane amount of money for it).

Thanks Adam.
Not following you entirely though - I probably don't know enough about this set though. Are you saying that the left side is the prize side? And that there is no Mays? Or that you haven't seen a left side. It's weird that there are so many "left side" Mantle's (54) and very few Mays (3) graded by PSA. Wonder why that is?

There was a Mantle on ebay the other day, too.
Here is a picture of it.

There were two Mantles made. The one you pictured is the more common version (not the winner) and features Mantle in action. There is another panel out there that features a portrait of Mantle. That was the winner card for this particular issue. My understanding is that you had to match up both panels to claim the prize.

Here is a link to one of the Babe Ruth winning cards, which is currently for sale on eBay (not my auction):

I wish I had the funds for those Mantles when they came up. The prices they brought were insane.

I am just glad i finally saw a 1953 B&W Yamakatsu Mickey Mantle card up in auction.
I had to tell Bestdj77 about it to share the find and let him take a stab at it, which he had done already. I was more enjoyed seeing it perhaps finding a home with CHris, but he failed to obtain it. But in the end, atleast i got to see one of those. i was holy cow, this could go under the radar, but it did not. B&L auctions
http://www.b-lauctions.com/1953_Yama...S-LOT6647.aspx Sold for 8,350.88 (w/bp)

I have seen photos, but I really want to see a 63' Mantle Mask in person.

The pictures never seem to due them justice due to being so hard to photo or scan.

The other card I know exists and is one of my Holy Grail pieces as I have seen one come to auction in 12 years is the 90' Donruss Aquaous Lance Parrish (he was my childhood idol) . To 99% percent of collectors, not important. To the 4 Lance Parrish serious player collectors (I am constantly competing with them on ebay) that junk wax gem will likely hit 600+ at auction.

Thanks Chris. I almost had that one but hopefully will get it next time it pops up! Or if there is ever a low grade on to hit the market, which I have to imagine is out there somewhere. I love these oddball cards.

Larry, given your want list I could only imagine how awesome your actual collection is. I hope you get them all one day and know I've been on the look out for the Armour coins you need.

I'd like to see the offer for the plaque myself. Never been found on the 63 Topps packs so not sure of the idea it's a Topps product.

Default Mantle Mask

Larry has a better one with the tab, but here is mine. I tend to doubt it is actually a Topps product because as Dave points out, no one has produced the wrapper offering it. Other hobby legend is that it may have been a cereal offering, but no one says what cereal. I bought mine because it is still listed by most as a Topps item

I like your clever frame idea to avoid any damage.

Ditto.

Larry, that Swoboda is great [certainly the first time that "swoboda" and "great" have shared a sentence without the word "disappointment" also appearing]. Do you have any of the SPs from the set?
