Hello everyone! I have a card that I'm thinking of buying, it's on ebay right now and I'm wondering if it's a real T206 Cobb. I've talked to the seller and she gave me some details on it but I want some other opinions on it. Thanks.

The only thing that looks a little out of the ordinary is the Polar Bear back. The borders are much whiter than usually encountered. Usually there is some tobacco staining on Polar Bears.

This could be a result of:

-pure luck that the card was never stained
-it may have been soaked out of an album which caused the stains to lighten
-it may have been "cleaned". I am referring to a deceptive practice where cards are put into various solutions to lessen their stains.

Good luck.

It may just be these old eyes or the lady might just have a bad scanner, but the Polar Bear back looks black and white, not navy and white. Coupled with the pure white borders, I'd sure be skeptical. On the other hand the feedback looks good but every single vintage card she has sold has been slabbed before this one. I'd ask for a money back guarantee. If she promises one, go for it...

I agree with tbob, the front looks fine, but the back definitely looks "off"---even when you supersize the picture it appears black and white, and the borders are "too white".

So do you guys think it's a fake, rebacked or what. The seller says she's had the card since 1979 and it came out of antique mall. More opinions please. Thanks.

notice the background behind the "back" photo is greyish, unlike the background of the front scan.

Some scanners, by default, will change the scan to a b&w if it can't pick up enough colors (mine will do this). It looks like the scanner did not pick up the purplish color of the Polar Bear back and so converted the entire scan to b&w.

This one is dead black. Either seller needs a new scanner bad, or card is a bad deal.

whether it's dark purple or black won't matter.
