Interesting read. Interesting to read how deep some folks dive into a hobby.

Great piece of journalism. (And this passage..."You probably know a Ken Fritz. Maybe you are a bit of one yourself. Prosperous mid-century America produced a lot of Kens. The kind of people who gave their all to their hobbies — bowling, gardening, woodworking, stamp collecting — and refused to pay somebody else to manifest their dreams for them.")

It’s sad that he’s sick hopefully he gets to enjoy it .
I went through this on a much smaller scale and
at a much much cheaper level ,
Peavey JBL Pioneer pre-amp ,
Cheap efficient drivers with the least amount of processing possible

That would qualify as a "Wall of Sound", RIP Phil Spector...

Pretty sad. Alienated his family to pursue his hobby.

This is the full documentary. Highly recommend giving it a watch, both for the cool stereo but also for the dialog. I can't tell you how many times he says "finally get to enjoy it" "should have done it long ago"... there is a powerful lesson in this.

Life your life. Pursue your passions. Don't lose sight of the big picture, and enjoy every day as it were your last.

I Googled $1M stereos and I found this guy's setup. He poured an entire sub-basement for the tuned bass for his system (picture 1) and then had the giant speaker array for the rest of the frequency range. Some people are a bit obsessed I suppose.

These are good photos to keep on hand to prove to your wife that your really not that crazy, if you're also into HiFi.
