Default Rare HOF auto on ebay

Vic Willis

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vic-Willis-A...-/181186978931

I haven't seen Garo's name around here in a while. Now, why would someone send an auto as rare as Willis to Garo for authentication?

Let me take a guess,,, because the seller has zero feedback??
I usually take a look at the other items from a seller like this.
Take a look at this guy.
All casino items, guess he is venturing from one gamble to another.

Yes, and everything else started with .99 bids.

Honestly, I didn't even get that far when I saw this listing. These silver certificates are a huge red flag for me by themselves. I just can't see someone in the late 19th/early 20th century having a ballplayer write his name on one.

More remarkable for me is that I hadn't seen Garo's name for a bit, and he authenticated this earlier this month.

An item that looked EXACTLY like that one along with a Nap Lajoie and another 19th century HOFer whose name I can't remember at present were sent to me in the mail over two years ago,
All were signed bank notes and I was told there were more , and that they were obtained at an estate sale when the seller bought some old books the bank notes were discovered lodged inside the books. After my initial conversation in which I told him it was my opinion the signatures were not authentic and would be returning them.
I tried repeatedly to confirm an address to return them to. Finally over a month later I received an e-mail and shipped them back. Since then looks like someone's opinion differed from mine.

I don't recall Frank Garo having anything to do with Operation Bullpen.

The seller made an error in his advertisement.
The seller refers to Frank Garo as a Forensic Document Examiner.
By his own admission on his website Frank Garo calls himself a Forensic Handwriting Examiner.
A title he has created for himself and which nobody else claims to be.
A forensic document examiner implies law enforcement, board certified and formal training.
Mr Garo, PSA, JSA and myself are none of these.
