Hi,

After collecting cards for a number of years, and being a Dodgers fan, I am going to start collecting Brooklyn cards. Does anyone have any suggestions where I should start? I am interested in the tobacco cards. Any ideas?

Bill Bergen, t205 is my recommendation for your first acquisition. Then any one of the Old Judge Brooklyn Grays from the 1880s.

You probably are already aware of it, but there are always plenty of tobacco cards available on ebay, esp. the t206's. Good Luck!

I would start with a T206 Zach Wheat--a Dodger legend and the only Brooklyn Hall of Famer in the T206 set. Not a terribly difficult card. With a little patience you can get an ungraded copy in VG for about $70. Graded by PSA or SGC in VG for about $100. Scot

You can work backwards or forwards. Either start with the 57 Bums and work back through the early Topps sets and then the Goudeys etc. or start with the T205, T206 and T207 sets. Be sure and get the Fatima Brooklyn team card and pick off some T204s while you are at it. Personally I like the caramel cards featuring Brooklyn players but it will cost yo more than tobaccos, generally. Finally, the Brooklyn players in the M116 Sporting Life set can still be had fairly cheap in nice shape, with a few exceptions.

Hope I didn't miss any.

Notes: Burch (Batting) and Pattee appear only in the 150 series and are somewhat difficult. Dahlen (Brooklyn) is a team variation subject and is scarce. Dahlen (Boston) is more common but is not easy either.

I think these are all the Brooklyn players in T205. I opted to collect one team instead of the whole T205 set and chose Brooklyn because I like the name Superbas.

Quite right, tbob. I contented myself with obtaining all of the available Brooklyn players, as opposed to all of the Brooklyn cards. BTW, all of these cards, even the Wheat, were relatively inexpensive.

Hey Tim,

While the cards aren't OLD, just old, look at Tip Top Bread cards. There's a good selection of Brooklyn players in that set, and they are affordable.
